Discussion: Carbuncle induced by wind-heat is considered most taboo in infants and children in ancient prescriptions, because their vital qi and blood are not yet settled, and their skin and muscles are tender and fragile, unable to withstand the fierce toxicity. Therefore, various types of carbuncles appear in不定 locations. Folk medicine also calls it "Liu" (flowing), indicating that it flows through the meridians and spreads on the body surface, appearing red like cinnabar paint. If there is a method to drain the toxic gas, it will be harmless; otherwise, if the carbuncle toxin enters the abdomen and approaches the heart, it will cause death. However, if it initially appears at the heart region, the aforementioned purgative methods should not be used.
For treating infantile carbuncle toxin presenting with redness, swelling, severe heat, and failing to heal after multiple treatments. Lanqing Decoction (Blue Indigo Decoction):
Qian Lan Qing (Isatidis Folium, dried leaf of Isatis tinctoria) (2 liang), Ningshui Shi (Calcitum, crushed), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, ground), Shanzhizi Ren (Gardeniae Fructus, seedless) (each 1.5 liang), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, stems removed), Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, shaved), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, black heart removed), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen, soaked in hot water, skin and tip removed, non-double kernels stir-fried), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried and chopped), Chi Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Lingyangjiao (Saigae Tataricae Cornu, shaved), Gegen (Puerariae Radix, chopped, each 0.5 liang), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 1 liang).
