Commentary states: When the Qi of the Zang-Fu organs is deficient, Wind-Cold pathogens invade. The pathogenic factors and healthy Qi struggle against each other, causing upward rushing to the Heart collaterals resulting in Heart pain. Downward attacking the abdominal membrane causes Abdominal pain; simultaneous attack above and below results in both Heart and Abdominal pain. This formula is particularly effective for treating Deficiency Cold in the Abdomen and tonifying blood. It especially stops Abdominal pain. Ordinary people may not use it due to its mild nature. However, if pressing on the abdomen causes pain that lessens upon heavy pressure, this is merely Qi pain. If heavy pressure increases pain and hardness, there is likely accumulation. Qi pain should not be purged, as purging worsens the pain. This is a Deficiency Cold syndrome, making this formula highly suitable. The *Waitai Miyao* treats deficiency exhaustion with Abdominal pain, nocturnal emission, soreness and pain in the four limbs, heat in hands and feet, dry throat and mouth, and lower Abdominal pain in women, also using this formula. Zhang Zhongjing's *Shanghan Lun* states: "Yang pulse is choppy, Yin pulse is string-taut. The method dictates urgent pain in the Abdomen. First give this formula. If not resolved, treat with Xiao Chaihu Tang." Both formulas treat Abdominal pain.
