Commentary states: When the human body retains stagnant fluid (Liuyin, retained fluid), it soaks and permeates the stomach. The stomach, affected by this dampness and fluid, suffers from delayed digestion of food. Food may remain undigested overnight, leading to symptoms such as belching with acid regurgitation, vomiting, nausea, abdominal and hypochondriac distension, and loss of appetite. These are all characteristic signs of this condition.
To treat disharmony of spleen and stomach qi, retention of fluid and undigested food, frequent dietary stagnation, postprandial abdominal pain, vomiting, hiccups, nausea, chest and hypochondriac fullness, and irregular bowel movements (either constipation or diarrhea), use the Moshizhi Wan (Grinding Stagnation Pill) formula:
Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Qingjupi (Green Tangerine Peel, soaked in hot water, white pith removed, dried), Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig, outer bark removed, each 1 liang), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus, washed in hot water, dried and stir-fried, 3 liang), Sharen (Amomi Fructus, boiled in vinegar until frost-like, ground), Badou Shuang (Crotonis Semen Oleum, husk and heart removed, oil expressed).
The above six herbs are processed as follows: The first four are crushed and sieved into powder. This powder is mixed evenly with Sharen frost and Badou oil. Vinegar-cooked wheat paste is used as a binder to form pills the size of mung beans. Each dose consists of 3 pills, gradually increased to 5 pills, taken morning and evening after meals and before bed. Reduce the number of pills if loose stools occur.
