It is stated that there are parasites in all five zang organs; these parasites transform when exposed to wind. The lung opens into the nose (the nose serves as the external orifice of the lung). If the Lung Meridian is deficient, wind-heat pathogens take advantage to invade, causing congestion and obstruction of nasal qi, preventing its free circulation. Consequently, gan parasites (parasites associated with malnutrition/gan syndrome) can erode the tissue, leading to sores in the nose.
Wu Xiang San (Black Aconite Musk Powder) for treating nasal gan sores that erode the nasal bridge:
Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata (Caowutou, burnt to ash) and Moschus (Shexiang, ground; equal parts of both).
Grind the above two ingredients together into a fine powder. Apply a small amount directly to the sore.
Fanshi Tang (Alum Decoction) for treating nasal gan sores with parasites:
Alumen (Fanshi, burnt until liquid evaporates then ground), Sophorae Flavescentis Radix (Kushen, one tael each), and Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Shengdihuang, three taels).
Chop Kushen and Shengdihuang into pieces the size of hemp seeds, mix evenly with Fanshi. Add eight he of water, decoct to obtain three he of liquid. Filter through fresh cotton wool, store in a porcelain vessel, and instill drops into the nose occasionally.
Formula for treating gan parasites eroding the nose and causing sores:
Copper chopsticks (one piece).
Heat the copper chopsticks until red-hot, quench them in vinegar, and apply a small amount of this vinegar solution to the affected area.
Huangbai Tang (Phellodendron Decoction) for treating gan heat and parasites eroding the nose causing sores:
Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai, coarse bark removed, two taels).
Finely chop this single ingredient, soak in fresh water for two days, wring out to obtain one cup of concentrated juice, boil once, and take warm.
Xingren Gao (Apricot Kernel Ointment) for treating nasal gan sores:
Armeniacae Semen (Xingren, skin and tip removed, quantity as needed).
Grind this single ingredient into an ointment, mix with milk, and apply to the sores.
Formula for treating nasal gan sores:
Dirt from the ear of a black ox (Wuniu erzho ngou).
Take a small amount of this dirt and apply it to the sores.
Formula for treating nasal gan sores:
Saliva from the nose of a cow (Niubi jin).
Apply this substance to the sores.
Chungen Tang (Toona Root Decoction) for treating gan parasites eroding the mouth and nose:
Toonae Radicis Cortex (Chungen, sliced one sheng, peeled), Sal (Yan, half he), Allii Cepae Albi (Congbai, sliced half sheng), Glycines Sojae Fructus Fermentatus (Chi, half sheng), Zanthoxyli Fructus (Jiao, remove eyes and closed ones, stir-fry until sweat appears, one he).
Mix the above five ingredients. Add three sheng of vinegar and three sheng of clear rice-washing water. Decoct for more than ten boils, strain, and retain approximately one sheng of liquid. Divide into three doses. Efficacy is indicated by the discharge of foul matter. Adjust dosage for children according to age and size.
Xichuang Yinxie Fang (Silver Scale Wash) for treating gan parasites eroding the mouth, nose, lips, cheeks, causing penetrating sores:
Yinxie (Yinxie, ten taels).
Decoct in three sheng of water to obtain one sheng of liquid. Wash the sores three to four times a day. Must be decocted in a copper vessel.
Rusheng San (Like-Sage Powder) for treating gan parasites eroding the nose causing sores, and redness/ulceration below the nose:
Hu Fen (Hufen, half liang), Moschus (Shexiang, ground to the weight of "yi zi"), Cucumis Melonis Fructus (Tian Guadi, seven fruits, ground to powder and mixed with Hufen).
Grind the above three ingredients thoroughly together. Take a small amount of Bufo Venenum (Chansu), soak in water overnight. On the next day, use the Chansu water to first dissolve Hufen, then mix to form pills the size of green mung beans. Use two pills per dose for adults, dissolve in water, and apply to the sores. For redness/ulceration below the nose, apply to the ulcerated area. Children use one pill per dose.
Qingjin San (Blue Gold Powder) for treating gan parasites eroding the nose causing sores, and weeping ulcers due to nasal discharge:
Cu Qing (Tongqing, i.e., Verdigris), Bai Fan (Baifan, raw ground, equal parts).
Grind the above two ingredients together into a powder. Apply a small amount to the sores. This may also be used for children.
