The treatise states: The syndrome of carbuncles and sores accompanied by vexation and thirst arises from heat qi steaming and scorching the five zang organs, leading to a deficiency of body fluids internally. Since the Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi and Blood rot and transform into pus and blood, body fluids are inevitably consumed. Once body fluids are depleted and heat qi becomes abundant, it causes internal vexation of the Shen (Spirit) and incessant desire to drink. However, some patients experience vomiting, hiccups, or diarrhea due to deficient heat in the five zang organs.
Tuo Li Huang Tang (Supporting Interior Decoction with Astragalus) for treating thirst caused by various sores and swellings:
Mian Huangqi (Astragali Radix, ten taels), Gancao (Licorice Root, one tael, prepared by stir-frying with honey).
The above two herbs are all chopped like hemp seeds. Each dose is five qian bi (approx. 15-20g depending on era/measure), boiled in two zhan (approx. 400ml) of water for five to seven boils. Strain the dregs and take warm at will, without restriction on time.
Di Huang Tang (Rehmannia Decoction) for treating severe thirst due to deficient heat in carbuncles and sores:
Sheng Dihuang (Fresh Rehmanniae Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Gancao (Licorice Root, prepared), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, chopped and slightly stir-fried), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Chifuling (Polyporus with Red Skin, black skin removed), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix).
The above fifteen herbs are chopped like hemp seeds. Each dose is five qian bi, boiled in one and a half zhan of water with seven leaves of Zhuye (Bamboo Leaves) until reduced to eight-tenths. Strain and take warm on an empty stomach. If urination is smooth, remove Mutong; if there is severe heat, add Renshen. Take again in the evening. Continue until recovery.
Huanglian Tang (Coptis Decoction - Note: Original text says "Huang [missing] Tang", composition includes Huanglian) for treating carbuncles and sores with excessive heat, dry mouth, thirst, clearing heat and stopping thirst:
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Gualougen (Trichosanthis Radix), Sheng Ganshengdihuang (Dried Prepared Rehmanniae Radix, baked), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (each one tael), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed and baked, one and a half taels), Zhiziren (Gardeniae Semen, one tael), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix, one and a half taels), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, black heart removed, one tael).
The above eight herbs are chopped like hemp seeds. Each dose is five qian bi, boiled in one and a half zhan of water until reduced to eight-tenths. Strain and take warm on an empty stomach, twice daily (morning and evening).
Gouqi Tang (Lycium Decoction) for treating back carbuncles and sores with heat, thirst, and mental confusion:
Gouqi Zhiye (Lycii Cortex and Leaves, five taels), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, powdered), Gualougen (Trichosanthis Radix), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma,须 removed), Gancao (Licorice Root, prepared, each one tael).
The above five herbs are chopped like hemp seeds. Each dose is five qian bi, boiled in one and a half zhan of water until reduced to eight-tenths. Strain and take warm on an empty stomach, twice daily (morning and evening).
Chensu Tang (Aged Millet Decoction) for treating dry vomiting in back carbuncles. This is caused by previous heat-thirst, excessive drinking of cold liquids, resulting in Stomach cold. It is suitable to take this decoction to warm the Spleen and harmonize the Stomach:
Chensumi (Aged Millet Grain, slightly stir-fried, one he), Jiangyan (Dried Ginger, roasted until cracked, half tael), Gancao (Licorice Root, prepared, four taels).
The above three herbs are chopped like hemp seeds. Each dose is five qian bi, boiled in one and a half zhan of water until reduced to eight-tenths. Strain and take warm on an empty stomach, twice daily (morning and evening). Continue until recovery.
Ningshuishi Jian (Halloysitum Decoction) for treating back carbuncles and sores with severe thirst and unquenchable dry mouth:
Ningshuishi (Halloysitum), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Fengmi (Honey) (each half jin).
First, crush the two mineral drugs and sieve them into powder. Boil in five sheng (approx. 1 liter) of water until thick. Then add honey and boil into a syrup. Store in a porcelain jar. On an empty stomach daily, take a date-sized amount, hold in the mouth to dissolve and swallow the saliva, five to seven times a day.
Zhuye Tang (Bamboo Leaf Decoction) for treating back carbuncles and sores with deficient heat in the four limbs and severe thirst:
Zhuye (Bamboo Leaves, one handful, washed clean, chopped, decocted to obtain three zhan of juice), Sheng Dihuang (Fresh Rehmanniae Radix, two taels), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, black heart removed), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Gancao (Licorice Root, prepared), Chifuling (Polyporus with Red Skin, black skin removed, each one tael), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Gualougen (Trichosanthis Radix), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed and baked, each one and a half taels).
The above twelve herbs, except Zhuye, are chopped like hemp seeds. Each dose is three qian bi. Use one zhan of Zhuye juice, add three broken Da Zao (Jujubae Fructus), and decoct together until reduced to seven-tenths. Strain and take warm. Three doses a day: morning, noon, and before sleep.
Zhuye Huangqi Tang (Bamboo Leaf and Astragalus Decoction) for treating back carbuncles and sores with accompanying thirst:
Dan Zhuye (Light Bamboo Leaves, one handful), Huangqi (Astragali Radix, chopped and stir-fried), Gancao (Licorice Root, prepared and chopped), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed and baked), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, black heart removed), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) (each three taels), Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix, sliced and baked, eight taels - *Note: Text fragmentary*).
The above twelve herbs are coarsely crushed and sieved. Each dose is five qian bi. Boil in one and a half zhan of water with one fen of smashed Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), five broken Da Zao (Jujubae Fructus), and seven Zhuye (Bamboo Leaves). Decoct until eight-tenths remain. Strain and take warm. Three times during the day, once at night.

Or potentially another herb, likely referring to a specific root), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Dan Zhuye (Light Bamboo Leaves, cut), Gancao (Licorice Root, prepared and chopped, each one tael).
The above ten herbs are coarsely crushed and sieved. Each dose is five qian bi. Boil in one and a half zhan of water until reduced to one zhan. Add Xiaoshi (Natrii Sulfas, one qian bi). Strain and take warm, without restriction on time.
