Discussion states: The etiology of goiter (Ying disease) presenting with throat obstruction and dysphagia lies in the stagnation of Qi due to worry and resentment within the chest and diaphragm, which fails to dissipate and subsequently clashes with the Lung and Spleen. The pharynx is the pathway for Stomach Qi; the larynx is the passage for Lung Qi. When these two meridians are invaded by pathogenic factors, their collaterals become obstructed and stagnant, preventing the free flow of Qi. This leads to the accumulation and knotting of pathogens, forming a goiter located below the throat. Due to the stagnation and retention of Qi, swallowing becomes obstructed and unsmooth, making this blockage the most urgent symptom for patients suffering from goiter.
