Discourse states: "Mi Mu" (Grain in the Eye) refers to foreign bodies such as chaff or flying dust entering the eye. Treatment should aim to remove them promptly. If left for too long, the foreign body adheres to the eyelid and damages the ocular tissues, leading to a gritty sensation, pain, and tearing. Ancient prescriptions for initial cases of Mi Mu suggest wrapping cotton around a chopstick to gently probe it out, or using ink juice or chicken blood to float the foreign body out, both of which are effective.
For treating flying dust causing Mi Yu with subsequent formation of corneal opacity and haze, use Cheqianzi San (Plantago Seed Powder):
Cheqian Zi (Seed of Plantago asiatica, washed and dried), Wuweizi (Fruit of Schisandra chinensis, stir-fried), Shaoyao (Root of Paeonia lactiflora, 1.5 liang each); Xixin (Rhizome of Asarum heterotropoides, removed roots and leaves), Baifuling (Sclerotium of Poria cocos, removed black skin), Xuanshen (Root of Scrophularia ningpoensis), Renshen (Root of Panax ginseng), Dahuang (Root of Rheum palmatum, cut and stir-fried), Jiegeng (Root of Platycodon grandiflorus, cut and stir-fried, 1 liang each).
The above nine ingredients are crushed, sifted into a powder. Take 3 qianbi per dose, after meals and before bed, mixed with warm rice water.
For treating sand and soil entering the eye, causing unbearable pain and redness/swelling, use Longyan Gao (Dragon Salt Ointment):
Yan (Salt), Longnao (Borneol), Pengsha (Borax, ground), Mayaxiao (Halite/Niter, ground), Sha (Sand, ground and purified), Ruiren (Seed of Prunus persica, 1 fen each), Xingren (Seed of Prunus armeniaca, peeled, pointed ends and double-kernel ones removed, 14 pieces).
The above seven ingredients are each finely ground, then mixed thoroughly. Blend with raw honey to an appropriate consistency, store in a new porcelain container. Apply with a bamboo stick to the eye.
For treating foreign bodies stuck in the eye that cannot be expelled, use Qumai San (Dianthus Powder):
Qumai (Herb of Dianthus superbus, with spikes), Ganjiang (Rhizome of Zingiber officinale, processed, 0.5 liang each).
