Discussion: The *Neijing* (Classic of Internal Medicine) states that individuals suffering from "Rouke" (Muscular Numbness and Heaviness) still feel numbness even when wearing cotton wadding. This is due to deficiency of Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) and excess of Wei Qi (Defensive Qi). Blood belongs to Ying, and Qi belongs to Wei. If both Ying and Wei Qi flow smoothly and unimpeded, the muscles will not suffer from numbness. However, when Ying Qi is deficient and Wei Qi is excessive, the blood vessels become stagnant and sluggish. Although the muscles may appear normal externally, the symptoms manifest as severe numbness and heaviness.
**Bai Jiangcan Wan Formula** for treating Ying deficiency with Wei excess, resulting in muscular numbness, a condition named Rouke:
*Bombyx Batryticatus* (Stir-fried, 0.5 liang), *Arisaema Cum Bile* (Pao-processed, washed with decoction, 0.5 liang), *Aconitum Carmichaelii Lateralis Radix Praeparata* (Pao-processed, peel off skin and umbilicus, 1 liang), *Fuzi* (Pao-processed, wash with decoction, 1 liang), *Zingiberis Rhizoma* (Pao-processed, sliced, 1 fen), *Calomel* (0.5 liang), *Moschus* (1 fen, ground into fine powder together with Calomel).
The above seven ingredients are pounded and ground into a fine powder. Honey is refined and used to form pills, sized like sophora seeds. Take 3 to 5 pills per dose with warm wine on an empty stomach.
