Discourse states: When Qi and Blood are extremely deficient, wind pathogen takes the opportunity to invade, causing the internal and external mechanisms to fail in unblocking and draining. This condition is termed Fei (Flaccidity). The manifestations of Wind-Fei include: the body is not painful, and the four limbs cannot move voluntarily.
For treating Wind-Fei where the body cannot be controlled voluntarily, speech is impaired, consciousness is clouded and the patient does not recognize others, pain location is unknown, or there is stiffness and spasm preventing turning over, use Xuming Decoction (Cure Life Decoction).
Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄) [remove nodes, decoct first, skim foam, dry-roast] 3 liang; Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata cum Melle (Zhigancao, 甘草) [honey-fried] 2 liang; Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi, 桂枝) [remove rough bark] 2 liang; Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当归) [slice, dry-roast] 2 liang; Ginseng Radix (Renshen, 人参) 2 liang; Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao, 石膏) [crushed] 2 liang; Zingiberis Rhizoma Praeparatum (Paojiang, 干姜) [processed] 2 liang; Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 川芎) 1 liang; Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Xingren, 杏仁) [remove skin and pointed ends, double-kernel ones stir-fried with bran] 40 seeds.
The above nine ingredients are chopped like hemp or bean seeds. Each dose consists of 5 qianbi (approx. 5-10g depending on measure), decocted in 1.5 sheng of water until reduced to 0.8 sheng. Strain and take warm. After administration, slight sweating should occur; cover lightly with a thin blanket, sit upright leaning against a table. Recovery occurs when sweat appears.
For treating Wind-Fei where the body cannot be controlled voluntarily, speech is impaired, consciousness is clouded and the patient does not recognize others, pain location is unknown, but there is stiffness and spasm with pain both inside and outside, use Xizhou Xuming Decoction (West Capital Cure Life Decoction).
