It is stated: The *Yellow Emperor's Classic of Acupuncture* (*Huangdi Zhenjing*) points out that among diseases, those presenting with abdominal distension and diarrhea are classified as Cold Stomach and Heat Intestine (Wei Han Chang Re). When the stomach is affected by cold pathogenic factors, Qi mechanism contracts and fails to circulate freely, resulting in abdominal fullness. When there is a resident heat pathogen in the intestines, water and grain cannot be properly gathered and transformed, leading to urgent diarrhea. The root of the disease lies in turbid cold Qi located in the upper part (Stomach) and clearing heat Qi located in the lower part (Intestines), thus causing both distension and diarrhea.
To treat Cold Stomach and Heat Intestine, abdominal distension and stuffiness, and unremitting diarrhea, use Heheli Tang Decoction (Heheli Tang):
Heheli (Fructus Chebulae, remove pits, 1 liang 5 qian); Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, cut and stir-fry, 0.5 liang); Qingjupi (Aurantii Fructus Viridis, soak in hot water, remove white pith, and bake dry, 0.5 liang); Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, processed, 1 fen); Nongpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, remove rough bark, process with ginger juice, 0.5 liang); Chenjupi (Aurantii Fructus, soak in hot water, remove white pith, and bake dry, 0.5 liang); Gaoliangjiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma, 0.5 liang); Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, processed, 1 fen); Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, remove forked branches, 1 fen); Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, remove pulp, stir-fry with bran, 0.5 liang).
