It is discussed that distension of Stomach Qi causes abdominal fullness and inability to eat. This is due to deficiency and coldness of the Spleen and Stomach, where Cold pathogen combats with the Yin meridians, resulting in gastric distension and blockage preventing food and drink intake; in cases of Qi deficiency, there is merely false distension causing bulging of the abdomen and hypochondrium.
For treating disharmony of the Spleen and Stomach, and false distension caused by middle Jiao Cold: Renshen Tang (Ginseng Decoction)
Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Baifuling (Poria with Cortex, removed black skin), Roudoukou (Nux Vomica Seed, removed shell), Binglang (Areca Seed, chopped), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, each 1 fen), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Helilepi (Pericarpium Terminaliae Chebulae, 2 liang).
The above ten ingredients are coarsely pounded and sieved. Each dose consists of 2 qianbi, decocted with 1 zhan of water, 3 slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and 1 slice of Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus) until reduced to 8 fen. Strain the dregs and take hot.
For treating chest and heart oppression, and false abdominal distension due to Qi stagnation: Dafu Tang (Greater Abdomen Decoction)
Dafuzi (Arecae Pericarpium, 4 pieces, chopped), Binglang (Areca Seed, 2 pieces, chopped), Chenjupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, soaked in hot water, white pith removed, dried), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix, radicle removed), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, chopped and stir-fried).
The above eight ingredients are coarsely pounded and sieved. Each dose consists of 2 qianbi, decocted with 1 zhan of water and 3 slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) until reduced to 6 fen. Strain and take warm, at any time.
For treating false abdominal distension and separately directing stagnant Qi: Fenqi San (Qi-Dividing Powder)
Xianrenkugu (unknown herb, 1 liang), Binglang (Areca Seed, large one piece, chopped), Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix), Baidoukou (Amomi Fructus Rotundus, each 1 fen), Zaozi (Gleditsiae Spina, male, 270 pieces, stir-fried until smoking and making sound, approx. 1 liang).
The above nine ingredients are pounded and ground into fine powder. Each dose is 1 zhanyi, taken mixed with decoction of Dafupi (Arecae Pericarpium). At any time.
To harmonize the Spleen and Stomach, treat false distension, resolve long-standing stagnation, and promote appetite: Muxiang Sanleng San (Aucklandia and Curcuma Powder)
Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 1 liang), Jingsanleng (Curcumae Radix, roasted and chopped, 4 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried and chopped, 3 qian), Qingjupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, soaked in hot water, white pith removed, dried, 1 liang), Shanyu (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Baifuling (Poria with Cortex, removed black skin, each 0.5 liang).
