Commentary states: Ge Qi Tan Jie (Diaphragmatic Qi and Phlegm Knotting) refers to condensed phlegm stagnating in the upper chest and diaphragm. Patients experience a sensation of choking or obstruction in the throat, cough up thick and turbid sputum, feel qi fullness in the chest, and have difficulty eating due to obstruction. This is generally caused by long-term deficiency of the Spleen and Lung, leading to blockage and stagnation of the qi mechanism, preventing normal ascending and descending functions. Consequently, fluid retention accumulates and condenses into phlegm. If not cured for a long time, it may transform into a disease of Xu Lao (Consumptive Disease) accompanied by asthma.
