[Discussion] The *Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) states that the Kidney governs hibernation (storage), is the root of sealing and storing, and is the residence of Essence. Generally, the Kidney receives and stores the Essence of the Five Zang and Six Fu organs. When Qi is abundant, the distribution and excretion of Essence follow regular patterns. However, in patients with Xu Lao (Deficiency Consumption), Essence and Qi are already depleted. Pathogenic factors take advantage of this deficiency, causing the storage function to become unstable. Consequently, Essence may leak out irregularly during dreams or urination/defecation. Clinical manifestations include stiffness and tension in the lower abdomen, coldness at the glans penis, eye pain, and hair loss. The pulse is rapid and scattered, or presents as Kou (hollow), Dong (surging/moving), or slightly Jin (tight).
