It is stated in the discussion: The *Neijing* (Classic of Internal Medicine) mentions that when heat from the Gallbladder channel transfers to the brain, it causes "Bi Yuan" (Nasal Sinusitis/Rhinorrhea), which may progress to "Nu Xue" (Epistaxis/Nosebleed) and blurred vision. Blood tends to surge and overflow when exposed to heat, but coagulates and stagnates when exposed to cold. When the Gallbladder receives heat from the Stomach, it travels upward along its meridian and transfers to the brain. Generally speaking, when the Yang collaterals are damaged, blood flows recklessly; this manifests as epistaxis in the nose and as bloody sweat at the sweat pores. Although these two conditions differ in presentation, both are caused by heat-jue (reversal of qi due to extreme heat) leading to blood extravasation. Currently, those treating epistaxis and bloody sweat focus solely on stopping bleeding, failing to realize that the movement and retention of blood are fundamentally governed by Qi, just as ocean tides are driven by Yin and Yang Qi. Understanding the reversal and smooth flow of meridians allows both blood and Qi to circulate freely, preventing the disaster of reckless blood flow.
For treating epistaxis and bloody sweat caused by excessive heat, use Zhuru Tang (Bamboo Shavings Decoction):
Sheng Zhu Ru (Fresh Bamboo Shavings), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens, sliced and dried), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, black heart removed, each 2 liang); Pu Huang (Typhae Pollen), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart and skin removed, each 1 liang).
The above six herbs are coarsely crushed and sifted. Take 5 qian bi per dose, add 1.5 zhan of water, decoct until 0.8 zhan remains, remove dregs, and take warm after meals, three times daily.
For treating epistaxis and bloody sweat, use Huangbai Yin (Phellodendron Drink):
Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex, rough bark removed), Ge Gen (Puerariae Radix, chopped), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, black heart removed, each 1.5 liang); Ji Su (Elsholtziae Herba, 1 liang), Ning Shui Shi (Halloysitum Rubrum, 2 liang), Sheng Zhu Ru (Fresh Bamboo Shavings, 0.5 liang).
The above six herbs are coarsely crushed and sifted. Take 3 qian bi per dose, add 1 zhan of water, and include 0.5 fen of sliced fresh Sheng Di Huang. Decoct until 0.7 zhan remains, remove dregs, and take warm after meals and before retiring.
For treating epistaxis and bloody sweat, use Baishao Yao San (White Peony Powder):
Bai Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 2.5 liang), Sheng Di Huang Zhi (Juice of Rehmanniae Radix Recens, 3 he), Sheng Ou Zhi (Juice of Nelumbinis Rhizoma, 1 he), Jiang Zhi (Ginger Juice, a little).
The above four ingredients: crush the Bai Shao Yao into powder. First boil the juices of the other three ingredients. For each dose, take half a zhan of the boiled juice, add 1 he of cooked water, and 2 qian bi of Bai Shao Yao powder. Stir well and drink warm after meals.
For treating persistent epistaxis and bloody sweat, use Zishen San (Codonopsis Powder):
Zi Shen (Codonopsis Radix or Scrophulariae Radix depending on context, here likely Codonopsis or similar root), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, black heart removed, each 1 fen); Yu Jin (Curcumae Radix), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, honey-fried, each 0.5 fen).
The above four herbs are pounded and sieved into a powder. Take 3 qian bi per dose, decoct together with 1 he of Sheng Di Huang Zhi, one spoonful of white honey, and 1 zhan of water until boiling. Take warm, three times daily.
For treating bloody sweat and unceasing epistaxis, use Dingming San (Life-Stabilizing Powder):
Dan Sha (Cinnabar), Shui Yin (Quicksilver/Mercury), She Xiang (Moschus, each 1 fen).
The above three herbs are finely ground, divided into two doses, and taken mixed with fresh drawn water.
For treating epistaxis and unceasing bloody sweat, use Dihuang San (Rehmannia Powder):
Sheng Gan Di Huang (Dried Fresh Rehmannia Root, baked), E Jiao (Donkey-Hide Gelatin, fried until dry, each 3 liang); Pu Huang (Typhae Pollen, 2 liang).
The above three herbs are pounded and sieved into a powder. Take 2 qian bi per dose, mixed with warm glutinous rice beverage, at any time.
For treating epistaxis and bloody sweat, use Yujin San (Curcuma Powder):
Yu Jin (Curcumae Radix), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Qing Dai (Indigo Naturalis, each 0.5 liang).
The above three herbs are pounded and sieved into a powder. Take 2 qian bi per dose, mixed with egg white.
For treating epistaxis and bloody sweat, eliminating heat accumulation, use Dihuang Zhuru Tang (Rehmannia and Bamboo Shavings Decoction):
Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens, sliced and baked, 1 jin); Qing Zhu Ru (Green Bamboo Shavings, 5 liang); Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, black heart removed), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, baked), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Xiong Qiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma, each 3 liang); Gui Zhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus).
The above nine herbs are chopped like hemp seeds. Take 5 qian bi per dose, add 1.5 zhan of water, decoct until 0.8 zhan remains, remove dregs, and take warm.
For treating reckless blood flow, whether epistaxis or bloody sweat, use Dusheng Tang (Solely Holy Decoction):
Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, black heart removed, 5 liang).
This single herb is finely chopped like hemp seeds. Take 7 qian bi per dose, add 2 zhan of water, decoct until 1 zhan remains, remove dregs, and take warm.
For treating epistaxis and bloody sweat caused by rising heat qi, use Ciji Tang (Acanthopanacis Decoction):
Ci Ji (Acanthopanacis Cortex or similar thorny plant stem, here likely referring to a specific herb like Acanthopanax or similar), Ji Su Ye (Elsholtziae Folium, each 2 liang); Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, mustards removed), Xi Jiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, shaved), Sheng Gan Di Huang (Dried Fresh Rehmannia Root, each 1 liang).
The above five herbs are coarsely crushed and sifted. Take 5 qian bi per dose, add 1.5 zhan of water, decoct until 0.8 zhan remains, remove dregs, and take warm, at any time.
