**Commentary:** The treatise states that "Ji" (Accumulation) arises from the Five Zang Organs. It is named "Ji" when Qi stagnates and accumulates. Its onset has a root/foundation, its pain remains in its specific location, and it is generated by Yin Qi. "Ju" (Gathering) is formed by the Six Fu Organs. It is named "Ju" when Qi gathers temporarily. Its onset has no fixed root, its pain occurs in varying locations, and it is generated by Yang Qi. Furthermore, there are conditions such as Zheng (Mass), Jia (Fluctuating Mass), and Pi (Hidden Mass). "Zheng" refers to masses that are faintly visible within the abdomen, whose shape and signs can be verified upon palpation. "Jia" refers to masses that gather and disperse, moving position when pushed. "Pi" refers to masses located on one side in the hypochondrium. "Jie" (Knot) refers to pathogens sinking and伏 (lying hidden), knotting strongly internally. These conditions may result from dietary issues, water retention, worry and overthinking, or wind-cold invasion. For any disease caused by blood and Qi sinking, stagnating, and knotting, treatment requires gradual grinding, dissolving, and reducing, allowing blood and Qi to flow freely, so that the disease may be cured.
**Commentary:** The treatise states: The Classics say there are diseases of Accumulation (Ji) and Gathering (Ju). How are they distinguished? Ji belongs to Yin Qi, while Ju belongs to Yang Qi. Yin is quiet and hidden; Yang is floating and active. When Qi accumulates long-term, it is called Ji; when Qi gathers temporarily, it is called Ju. Therefore, Ji arises from the Five Zang Organs, and Ju arises from the Six Fu Organs. As a disease, Ji has a constant initial location; its pain does not leave its region, having definite upper/lower beginnings and endings, and left/right boundaries. As a disease, Ju has no fixed root; it does not stay or stop in any specific upper/lower location, and its pathology has no constant place. This is the distinction between Ji and Ju.
