Commentary states: The *Classic of Internal Medicine* (*Huangdi Neijing*) mentions that the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner) is like mist and dew, referring to the steaming and moistening action of the body fluids from the five Zang organs. This Qi is moist and nourishing, thus enabling distribution throughout the various meridians. Now, patients suffering from cholera morbus (acute gastroenteritis with vomiting and diarrhea) have severely lost their body fluids. This leads to disharmony among the Zang and Fu organs, heat in the Upper Jiao, and insufficiency of body fluids, resulting in irritability and thirst due to cholera morbus.
To treat cholera morbus accompanied by irritability and thirst, where vomiting does not cease: The cause of thirst here is excessive vomiting and diarrhea leading to fluid deficiency, preventing fluids from ascending to the Upper Jiao.
