Commentary states: Patients suffering from "Gu Zheng" (Bone Steaming, a type of consumption fever) present with emaciated and haggard skin and muscles, deficient Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi), and internal depletion of True Yang. The water they drink cannot be transformed and metabolized, remaining stagnant in the hypochondriac region. This leads to an entrenched disease characterized by hard, indigestible masses. It may arise from dietary injury or agitation, emotional worry causing Qi stagnation, or inhalation of wind-cold pathogens, triggering the onset of the disease. The pathology originates below the ribs and on both sides of the umbilicus, resembling a transverse arm, which is tender to pressure. It interferes with eating and causes pain due to accumulation and retention; hence it is called "Gu Zheng Pi" (Bone Steaming Mass).
