新。除伤寒心下烦热，诸痰结实，胸中邪逆，五脏间游气，大肠停积，水胀及湿痹拘挛，
可作浴汤。《药性论》云∶能治热劳骨节烦疼，热气肩背疼痛，宣畅血气，劳乏羸瘦，主
五劳七伤，除烦止惊，益气力，消痰止嗽，润心肺，添精补髓，天行瘟疾，热狂乏绝，胸
气满，健忘。得∶茯苓、桔梗、大黄、石膏、麻子仁、甘草、桂，以水一斗煮取四升，入
石三方寸匕，疗伤寒寒热头痛，心下烦满。半夏为之使。恶∶皂荚。畏∶女菀、藜芦。
味甘，微寒，无毒。主筋急拘挛不可屈伸，风湿痹，下气，除筋骨邪气不仁，利
消水肿，令人能食，久服轻身益气。其根下三虫。《药性论》云∶能治热风筋脉挛
人食。主肺痿肺气，吐脓血，咳嗽涕唾上气。孟诜云∶性平。治干湿香港脚。昔，马
破五溪毒肿。

，止渴，肥人，时疾热狂头痛，止嗽。地黄、车前为使。恶∶款冬、苦瓠。畏∶苦参、青
葙、木耳。
[Bupleurum Root / Chai Hu]
Nature and Flavor: Sovereign drug. Bitter in flavor, neutral and slightly cold in nature, non-toxic. It primarily treats diseases of the heart and abdomen, removes stagnant Qi in the stomach and intestines, resolves food accumulation, expels pathogenic cold and heat, promotes the elimination of turbid substances and the generation of fresh ones. It eliminates vexation and heat under the heart caused by Shanghan (Cold Damage), resolves various phlegm accumulations, directs rebellious Qi in the chest, disperses wandering Qi among the five Zang organs, clears stagnation in the large intestine, treats water swelling and damp-bi with spasms, and can be used as a medicinal bath decoction. The *Yao Xing Lun* states that it can treat bone-steaming consumption with painful joints, shoulder and back pain due to heat, unblocks and smooths blood and Qi, treats exhaustion and emaciation, addresses the Five Exhaustions and Seven Injuries, relieves vexation and stops palpitations, tonifies Qi and strength, resolves phlegm and stops coughing, moistens the lungs and heart, replenishes essence and marrow, treats epidemic febrile diseases, mania with exhaustion, chest fullness of Qi, and forgetfulness.
Compatibility: Compatible with Poria (Fuling), Platycodon Root (Jiegeng), Rhubarb (Dahuang), Gypsum (Shigao), Hemp Seed (Maziren), Licorice Root (Gancao), and Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi). Decoct one dou of water until four sheng remain, add Shi [cubic inch measure], and treat Shanghan with alternating chills and fever, headache, and fullness/vexation under the heart.
Assistant Herb: Pinellia Tuber (Banxia) acts as its assistant.
Antagonistic: Averse to Soap Pod (Zaojiao).
Incompatible: Harmed by Lady's Smock (Nuan) and Veratrum (Lilu).
[Coix Seed / Yiyi Ren]
Nature and Flavor: Sweet in flavor, slightly cold in nature, non-toxic. It primarily treats tight spasms and contractures of tendons and vessels preventing flexion and extension, wind-damp bi syndrome, descends Qi, removes pathogenic factors from bones and muscles causing numbness, promotes urination, reduces edema, stimulates appetite, and long-term use lightens the body and tonifies Qi. Its root contains three worms (Note: Textual anomaly, literal translation). The *Yao Xing Lun* states that it can treat wind-heat causing tendon and vessel spasms, enabling eating. It treats lung abscess (Fei Wei), deficiency of Lung Qi, expectoration of pus and blood, coughing, rhinorrhea, sputum, and rebellious Qi. Meng Shen states: Nature is neutral. Treats dry and damp gout (Hongjiao). Historically, Ma broke the toxic swelling of the Five Streams.
[Ophiopogon Tuber / Maidong]
Nature and Flavor: Sovereign drug. Sweet in flavor, neutral and slightly cold in nature, non-toxic. It primarily treats stagnant Qi in the heart and abdomen, injury from overeating, severance of stomach collateral vessels, emaciation and shortness of breath, heaviness of the body, distension and fullness under the heart, deficiency consumption with external heat, dry mouth and vexation/thirst. It stops vomiting, cures flaccidity (Wei Jue), nourishes Yin and benefits essence, aids digestion and harmonizes the middle, calms the spirit, stabilizes Lung Qi, soothes the five Zang organs, makes the person robust and strong, beautifies the complexion, and facilitates conception. The *Yao Xing Lun* states: Acts as an assistant. It can treat heat toxins, stop vexation and thirst, primarily treat generalized edema of the face and limbs, promote water metabolism, treat lung abscess with expectoration of pus, address seminal emission, and treat heart and abdominal Qi stagnation. Ri Hua Zi states: Treats the Five Exhaustions and Seven Injuries, calms the soul and魄 (po), stops thirst, promotes weight gain, treats epidemic febrile diseases with mania and headache, and stops coughing.
Compatibility: Rehmannia Root (Dihuang) and Plantago Seed (Cheqianzi) act as its assistants.
Antagonistic: Averse to Winter Flower Bud (Kuandong) and Bitter Bottle Gourd (Kuhu).
Incompatible: Harmed by Sophora Root (Kushen), Celosia Seed (Qingxiang), and Wood Ear Mushroom (Mu'er).
