To treat *Gu Zhu* (Gu infestation and transmission), characterized by edema of the four limbs, emaciation with dry skin, cough with counterflow qi, and abdominal distension resembling water swelling. This disease may transmit to family members after death. Also known as the formula for Gu distension. (Named *Xionghuang Wan* in *Xiaopin Fang*.)
*Xionghuang* (Realgar), *Badou* (Crotonis Fructus), *Mangcao* (Daphne Genkwa Flower), *Guijiu* (Podophylli Radix) (each 4 liang), *Wugong* (Centipedae Corpus) (3 specimens).
The above five herbs are ground into powder, mixed with honey, and pounded three thousand times. Form pills the size of small beans. Seal tightly to prevent leakage of qi. Do not eat at night before taking the medicine. In the morning on an empty stomach, take one pill. If there is no effect after the time it takes to cook a meal, increase the dose by one pill. After administration, clear fluid should be discharged first, followed by worms several inches long, then snakes, and subsequently substances resembling egg whites or paste. After discharge, nourish the body with scallion and fermented soybean porridge, and maintain warmth and care.
For treating internal Gu poison, where the abdomen is hard as stone, the face and eyes appear greenish-yellow, urination is dribbling and difficult, and the pathology changes unpredictably. (Both *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* and *Gujin Luyan* state: Use *Tiejing* (Iron filings) and liver of black hen mixed into pills the size of sophora seeds, taken with wine, three pills per dose, twice daily. For severe cases, recovery occurs within ten days. *Qianjin* uses the following decoction; this may be an error.)
Sheep skin (5 cun square), *Xijiao* (Rhinocerotis Cornu), *Shaoyao* (Paeoniae Radix Alba), *Mudanpi* (Moutan Cortex), *Huanglian* (Coptidis Rhizoma) (each 1 liang), *He* (Nelumbinis Nelumbo Leaf/Petiole) (4.5 liang), *Zhizi Ren* (Gardeniae Semen) (7 seeds).
The above seven herbs are cut into pieces, boiled in nine sheng of water until three sheng remain. Divide into three doses. (Ge Shi and Cui Shi's formulas do not contain *Mudanpi*, *Shaoyao*, or *Zhizi*, but have...)
For treating various diseases caused by Gu poison, sudden abdominal pain, flying corpse syndrome, evil qi, and swelling.
*Xijiao* (Rhinocerotis Cornu, shaved), *Guijiu* (Podophylli Radix, shaved), *Guixin* (Cinnamomi Ramulus Powder), *Lingyangjiao* (Saigae Tataricae Cornu, shaved) (each 4 qian bi), *Tianxiong* (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata), *Mangcao* (Daphne Genkwa Flower), *Zhenzhu* (Cinnabaris, i.e., *Dansha*), *Xionghuang* (Realgar) (each 1 liang), *Beizi* (Concha Meretricis et Cyprinae) (5 shells, calcined), *Wugong* (Centipedae Corpus) (5 segments), *Badou* (Crotonis Fructus) (50 seeds), *Shexiang* (Moschus), *Shewang* (Aconiti Radix Preparata / Veratrum alkaloid preparation) (each the size of a chicken yolk, 1 piece).
The above thirteen herbs are ground into powder, mixed with honey to form pills the size of small beans. Take one pill twice daily, holding it in the mouth to swallow. If there is no effect, slightly increase the dose. For sudden abdominal fullness and flying corpse syndrome, take two pills the size of soybeans. If suffering from evil qi swelling, mix with vinegar and apply topically. Store the medicine in a crimson bag and tie it to the left arm to ward off inauspicious influences, ghostly afflictions, and Gu poison. Useful for emergency preparedness.
Formula for treating Gu poison:
*Qiangen* (Rubiae Cordifoliae Radix), *Hegen* (Nelumbinis Rhizomatis Nodus) (each 3 liang).
The above two herbs are cut into pieces, boiled in four sheng of water until two sheng remain. Take all at once. (*Zhouhou Beiji Fang* states: Treats hematemesis due to Gu poisoning, or bloody stool resembling rotten liver; the patient can know the name of the person who cast the Gu.)
Another formula: *Pi Hui* (Ash of leather), *Luancha Hui* (Ash of human hair) (each 1 fang cun bi), fresh juice of hemp seeds (5 sheng), peach root bark (from the sunny side), oak bark white layer (from the shady side) (each 5 liang).
The above five herbs: First boil peach root bark and oak bark to obtain one sheng of concentrated juice. Mix evenly with hemp seed juice and ash. The patient should eat lightly the night before. In the morning, take one large sheng. Soon after, vomit into a basin; the vomitus will resemble ox saliva and calf placenta, and all parasites will be expelled.
Another formula: Oak bark white layer from the shady side, a handful about 5 cun long. Boil in three sheng of water until one sheng remains. Take on an empty stomach to induce vomiting of parasites. Also treats Gu poisoning with bloody stool.
Another formula: Ash of leather taken with water, 1 fang cun bi, also expels parasites.
Another formula: *Daji* (Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix), *Banmao* (Mylabris), peach white bark collected on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month (each 4 fen. *Bixiao Fang* states: Take bark from branches growing eastward and dry over fire.)
The above three herbs are ground and sifted. In the morning on an empty stomach, take eight "ni" (pinches) with one zhong of water. Hold the pill between two fingers to open it slightly before swallowing at once. If too much medicine is taken by separating the fingers, it may harm the person. (*Zhouhou Fang* states: If a date-pit sized dose does not work, administer again after ten days. *Bixiao Fang* states: Take half a fang cun bi...)
Formula for treating Snake Gu (Snake venom enters vegetables or fruits; ingestion causes illness, named Snake Gu):
Soak soybean powder in wine, squeeze out the juice, and take half a sheng.
Formula for treating various heat toxins or Gu poison causing bleeding from the nose and mouth, which physicians cannot cure:
Take seven tips of human feces, burn them until they turn fiery red, grind them in water, and take at once. It heals immediately. It also detoxifies hundred-toxins, seasonal epidemics, and heat diseases. Extremely effective.
Formula for treating Gu poison causing hematemesis and bloody stool:
*Jupi* (Zelkovae Cortex) (5 cun wide, 1 chi long), *Ludi Gen* (Phragmitis Rhizoma) (size of the big toe, 5 cun. *Duanju Fang* uses *Qiangwei Gen*).
The above two herbs are cut into pieces, boiled in two sheng of water until one sheng remains. Take at once. Strongly expels Gu poison.
Formula for treating internal Gu poisoning with bloody stool and frequent diarrhea (dozens of times a day):
*Badou* (Crotonis Fructus) (14 seeds), *Yuanqing* (Lyttae Corpus), *Lilu* (Veratri Radix), *Fuzi* (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata), *Fanshi* (Alumen) (each 2 fen).
The above five herbs are ground into powder. Process *Badou* separately, then mix well. Wrap the medicine in cotton cloth like a soybean, insert into the lower orifice (anus), three times daily, until cured.
Another formula: One bitter melon (*Kuhu*), boil in two sheng of water until one sheng remains. Take gradually. It should expel Gu poison and cause vomiting of creatures resembling toads and tadpoles. Complete expulsion may take one month. (*Zhouhou Fang* states: Boil with two sheng of vinegar.)
