Treatment for malignant nodules caused by toxic vapors in the Jiangnan region, and formulas for sudden swelling and ulceration resulting from acute envenomation by *Shegong* (a mythical poisonous insect).
Jiaxiang (Stelea Shell), Xijiao (Rhinoceros Horn), Biejia (Turtle Carapace), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Xunluxiang (Olibanum), Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos), Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum), Wu (likely Wuyao or specific local herb), Qingmuxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Chuanlian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Lingyangjiao (Saiga Tataricae Cornu), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [each 4 fen], Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus) [3 fen], Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) [6 fen].
The above sixteen ingredients are processed and sifted. For envenomation by *Shegong* or other toxins, take one *cunbi* (approx. 2-3 grams) of the powder with water, twice daily. Additionally, mix a small amount of the powder with water to wash the affected area. Alternatively, mix the powder with egg white and apply it to the swollen area; change when dry.
Treatment for malignant nodules caused by *Shegong* and sudden exposure to severe toxicity.
Yege (likely Aconitum or similar toxic root), Badou (Crotonis Fructus), Wutou (Aconiti Radix), Chuanjiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium) [each 0.5 sheng], Yinyu (Epimedii Herba), Zhizhu (Rhododendri Mollis Flos), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Dansha (Cinnabaris), Xionghuang (Realgar), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) [each 1 liang].
The above ten ingredients are processed and sifted. Fry them in three jin (approx. 1.5 kg) of pure lard (pig fat not exposed to water) using the "three up, three down" method (boiling intermittently). Strain out the dregs, add powdered Dansha and Xionghuang, and stir until solidified. Form into pills the size of a jujube pit. Rub onto painful areas, avoiding the eyes. When preparing any ointment, ensure that parturient women, women, children, chickens, dogs, and livestock do not see the process; maintain a clean and pure environment.
Treatment for *Shashi* (sand tick/midge) venom:
Banmao (Mylabris), two specimens. Roast one specimen and grind into powder; ingest a large pill-sized dose. Roast another specimen until smoke ceases, grind into powder, and apply into the wound.
Another formula:
Ten bulbs of Dasoon (Allium sativum). Keep the skin on and roast in hot ashes until hot. Peel and cut the garlic head, then apply the warm garlic directly to the poisoned area.
Another formula:
Shexiang (Moschus), Dasoon (Allium sativum).
Grind the above two ingredients together, mix with sheep fat, store in a small tube for carrying. Apply to the wound when needed.
Another formula:
Xionghuang (Realgar), Zhusha (Cinnabaris), Hengshan (Polygalae Radix) [equal parts].
On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month at noon, have a young boy prepare the mixture. Apply to the wound.
Treatment for Stone Leech (*Shizhi*):
Stone leeches found on damp, shady vegetation in mountains attach to humans, penetrating and biting the skin, burrowing into flesh, causing spreading eruptions resembling worm tracks.
When walking in mountainous vegetation, frequently apply lard mixed with salt (collected in the twelfth lunar month) to the calves, toes, and dorsum of the feet, as well as to shoes and socks, to prevent leech attachment.
If already attached, cauterize the connection point to sever the leech, which will result in healing.
Treatment for Water Toxicity (*Shuidu*):
Discussion states: There are poisonous insects in mountain waters. When people wade through water, they may be bitten. The sensation is similar to being struck by *Shegong*, but no object is visible. Initially, symptoms include aversion to cold, mild headache, orbital pain, mental restlessness and oppression, trembling of the four limbs, stiffness of the waist, back, and all joints, knee pain, or a feeling of slight heat. The patient desires sleep; symptoms worsen in the evening compared to the morning. Coldness extends from the hands and feet up to the elbows and knees. After two to three days, worms develop in the abdomen, eroding the lower body. Ulcers form in the anus, characterized by lack of pain or itching, often unnoticed. If not treated urgently, after six to seven days, pus and ulceration appear in the lower body. The worms ascend to devour the five zang organs. Severe heat, toxicity, irritability, and uncontrollable diarrhea ensue. By the eighth or ninth day, even skilled physicians cannot cure the condition. This toxicity has yin and yang distinctions. Upon detection, examine the lower body immediately. If the ulcer is bright red like cut meat, it is Yang Toxicity, which is most urgent. If the ulcer resembles carp teeth, it is Yin Toxicity, which is slightly less urgent. However, both are fatal within twenty days. To determine if one has contracted water toxicity, boil five to six sheng of water, add five sheng of chopped Dasoon (Allium sativum), observe the reaction without letting it become too hot, strain, and use the liquid for bathing. If water toxicity is present, red spots will appear on the body; absence of such spots indicates it is not water toxicity.
