Any case involving hematochezia (blood in stool) is classified as Gu poison (a category of toxic diseases characterized by parasitic or mysterious symptoms). Treat with this formula (see the subsequent Volume 26, Section on Gu Poison).

(Thirty-six formulas included)

To treat infants suffering from accumulated cold in summer due to excessive bathing, or when the nursing mother also bathes in cold water and feeds the infant cold milk. This may cause the infant to suddenly develop high fever, which is exacerbated by heavy rain and cooling weather, leading to watery diarrhea. If the stomach qi is weak, symptoms include a bluish complexion, cold flesh, sunken eyes, and dry retching. It is appropriate to first administer this formula to regulate stomach qi; upon administration, the diarrhea will cease.
Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), Houpo (Magnolia Bark) (each 1 fen); Danggui (Angelica Sinensis), Guixin (Cinnamon Twig), Gancao (Licorice Root) (each 3 fen); Renshen (Ginseng), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Fuling (Poria), Jiegeng (Platycodon Root) (each 2 fen).
The above nine ingredients are coarsely crushed. Decoct in two sheng of water until reduced to nine he. For infants aged sixty to one hundred days, administer two and a half he per dose. For other ages, adjust the dosage according to the infant's size.

To treat infants suffering from sudden cold exposure, where food, grain, or milk passes through the intestines coldly, appearing as undigested green clumps; or cold excess causing vomiting and diarrhea, accompanied by dry retching, vexation, and oppression; as well as red-and-white dysentery caused by cold stagnation. If various purgative decoctions have already been used to remove excess pathogenic factors, but the stomach remains deficient and cold, with watery diarrhea, dry retching, sunken eyes, and restlessness, purgatives are contraindicated. In such cases, Dahuang (Rhubarb) should be omitted. If the infant is breastfed and the mother has recently bathed, allowing damp-cold qi to remain, which causes Huoluan (cholera-like syndrome) in the infant: if purgation is indicated, add Dahuang; if warming is indicated instead of purgation, omit it.
Dahuang (Rhubarb) (6 fen); Guixin (Cinnamon Twig), Houpo (Magnolia Bark), Gancao (Licorice Root), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) (each 1 fen); Renshen (Ginseng), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Fuling (Poria), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis) (each 2 fen); Jiegeng (Platycodon Root) (3 fen).
The above ten ingredients are decocted in two and a half sheng of water until reduced to eight he. For infants aged thirty to sixty days, administer two he per dose; for those aged seventy to one hundred days, two and a half he per dose; for those aged two hundred days, three he per dose.

To treat infants who suffer from sudden cold exposure in summer, where cold constrains internal heat, forcing heat into the stomach. This results in the passage of red-and-white mucus resembling fish brains, accompanied by high fever, headache, generalized body heat, and irritability of the hands and feet. This condition arises because the Qi of the Taiyang (Greater Yang) channel is externally constrained by cold, allowing heat to enter the stomach. Administering this formula yields good results. If mistakenly treated with purgatives or Wentai Tang (Warm the Spleen Decoction), it may lead to heat-dysentery. If purgatives are used, it may result in frequent passage of red fluid resembling rotting meat. If purgation fails to cure, and astringent-hot medicines are subsequently used to stop the diarrhea, the diarrhea may persist and high fever may intensify. In such cases, this formula is effective. Alternatively, if a warm disease with intense heat is constrained by sudden cold, forcing heat into the abdomen and causing bloody stools resembling fish brains, this formula is excellent.
Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), Shengma (Cimicifuga Rhizome), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis), Baitouweng (Pulsatilla Root) (alternatively Bai Lian/Ampelopsis Rhizome), Muli (Oyster Shell), Shiliupi (Pomegranate Peel), Jisheng (Taxillus Branch), Gancao (Licorice Root) (each 2 fen); Xijiao (Rhino Horn - *Note: Substitute with Buffalo Horn in modern practice*), Aiye (Mugwort Leaf) (each 1 fen).
The above twelve ingredients are coarsely crushed. Decoct in three sheng of water until reduced to one sheng and two he. For infants aged one hundred to two hundred and one days, administer three he per dose.
