Treats deficiency-cold (Xu Lao Han) due to consumption, where fluid retention (Yin) resides in the hypochondrium, producing a gurgling sound. After drinking, it feels as if the fluid flows down from one side with a gurgling sound. There is a protrusion rising against the skin, pulling and causing pain in both breasts. Symptoms include abdominal urgency and tension, frequent dreams with seminal emission, shortness of breath, blurred vision (Mu KTKT), mental confusion, and forgetfulness.
Formula:
Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper Fruit, *Zanthoxyli Fructus*) – 2 he
Banxia (Pinellia Tuber, *Pinelliae Rhizoma*) – 1 sheng
Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger Rhizome, *Zingiberis Recens Rhizoma*) – 1 jin
Gancao (Licorice Root, *Glycyrrhizae Radix*) – 2 liang
Renshen (Ginseng Root, *Panacis Ginseng Radix*) – 3 liang
Yitang (Maltose) – 8 liang
Preparation: Coarsely crush the above six ingredients. Add 10 dou of water, decoct until 3 sheng remain. Strain off the dregs, add Yitang, and take 7 he warm. If abdominal urgency and pulling pain worsen, add Shaoyao (Peony Root, *Paeoniae Radix Alba*) and Guixin (Cinnamon Twig Heart, *Cinnamomi Ramulus*) each at 3 liang. If there is cold extremities (Shou Zu Jue) and coldness in the lower back, add one Fuzi (Aconite Lateral Root, *Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata*). For cases involving labor/overwork, add Huangqi (Astragalus Root, *Astragali Radix*) at 1 liang.
