Commentary states: To perform acupuncture and moxibustion, one must first know the auspicious and inauspicious days of the annual cycle (Xing Nian) and the location of the Human Spirit (Ren Shen), ensuring they do not conflict with taboos. These are detailed below.
For those with a Wood Destiny (Mu Ming), when the annual cycle is in Wood, acupuncture and administration of green-colored medicines are inappropriate.
For those with a Fire Destiny (Huo Ming), when the annual cycle is in Fire, sweating therapies and administration of red-colored medicines are inappropriate.
For those with an Earth Destiny (Tu Ming), when the annual cycle is in Earth, emetic therapies and administration of yellow-colored medicines are inappropriate.
For those with a Metal Destiny (Jin Ming), when the annual cycle is in Metal, moxibustion and administration of white-colored medicines are inappropriate.
For those with a Water Destiny (Shui Ming), when the annual cycle is in Water, purgative therapies and administration of black-colored medicines are inappropriate.
Physicians who do not understand these methods will encounter difficulties upon treatment. For patients with severe destiny misfortunes, refer to the side-passing methods for calculating Heavenly Physician (Tian Yi), Blood Taboo (Xue Ji), and other monthly and daily taboos:
Monthly Side-Passing Method (Corresponding Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches):
1st Month 2nd Month 3rd Month 4th Month 5th Month 6th Month 7th Month 8th Month 9th Month 10th Month 11th Month 12th Month
Heavenly Physician (Tian Yi): Mao Yin Chou Zi Hai You Shen Wei Si Wu Chen (Calling the Master for treatment is auspicious)
Blood Taboo (Xue Ji): Chou Wei Yin Shen Mao You Chen Xu Si Hai Wu Zi (Acupuncture and moxibustion are taboo)
Monthly Abhorrence (Yue Yan): Xu You Shen Wei Wu Si Chen Mao Yin Chou Zi Hai (Acupuncture and moxibustion are taboo)

Ascending to Heavenly Physician and Calling the Master avoids illness and is auspicious; if encountering Punishment or Harm positions, it is ominous.
