The above fifteen medicinal materials are ground into powder in equal proportions, mixed with honey to form pills the size of wu zi (Cocculus trilobus seeds). Take twenty pills per dose, administered with wine.
Pill prescription to prevent recurrence of Cholera-like disease:
Huzhang (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix), Weixian (Adenophorae Radix) (each 2 liang), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Binglang (Arecae Semen), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (each 3 liang), Nongpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) (6 liang), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (5 liang), Zhaojia (Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina) (3 cun).
The above ten medicinal materials are ground into powder, mixed with honey to form pills the size of wu zi. Take twenty pills per dose, administered with wine, three times daily. During the Wude era of the Tang Dynasty, a virtuous nun named Jingming suffered from this condition for a long time. It occurred once or twice a month, and each episode was fatal. Imperial physicians such as Jiang Xu failed to diagnose it correctly. I treated her using methods for Cholera-like disease and cured her.
For patients who have previously taken mineral drugs (Shiyao), and after experiencing vomiting and diarrhea due to Cholera-like disease, subsequent administration of various hot-natured medicines stopped the vomiting and diarrhea but led to a deficiency syndrome characterized by mental restlessness, heat in the hands and feet, dry mouth with desire for water, vomiting and regurgitation, dizziness and oppression, and a rapid and urgent pulse. Or, following an epidemic febrile disease where pathogenic toxins remain uneliminated, if vomiting and diarrhea persist with continued fever and severe chest pain described as "heart splitting," use the following prescription to resolve these symptoms:
Ji (likely referring to Qini or similar herb, literally Shepherd's Purse/Herba Descurainiae), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Nongpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Gualougen (Trichosanthis Radix), Fuling (Poria), Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu - *Note: Use substitutes in modern practice*), Lanzi (Isatidis Folium or Semen Isatidis), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Jupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (each 1 liang).
The above fourteen medicinal materials are chopped, boiled in one dou (approx. 10 liters) of water until reduced to three sheng (approx. 3 liters). Divide into three doses.
Prescription for Cholera-like disease caused by internal heat, presenting with profuse diarrhea, mental restlessness, rapid pulse, and desire for cold water:
Drink one sheng (approx. 200ml) of freshly drawn well water in one go; recovery is immediate. Do not use this method for patients with pre-existing stomach cold.
Secret prescription for intractable Cholera-like disease:
Burn the menstrual cloth of an unmarried girl together with blood into ash. Administer one fangcun bi (approx. 2-3 grams) with wine. Use this for cases refractory to all other treatments.
Prescription for Cholera-like disease with muscle cramps (Zhuanjin):
Take one handful of Polygonum species (Liao), remove the head and tail ends. Boil in three sheng of water until reduced to one sheng. Drink in one dose. (Alternative version suggests using pear leaves).
Another prescription: Burn old wooden combs to ash, grind into powder, and take one pill-sized amount with wine. Mild cases will be permanently cured.
Another prescription: Apply grease from cart wheels to the soles of the feet (Yongquan area); this cures the condition.
Prescription for severe Cholera-like disease with muscle cramps extending to the abdomen causing despair:
Prepare extremely salty saline water. Warm it in a trough and soak the feet in it.
Another prescription: Soak green cloth in vinegar, boil, and apply as a compress to the affected area. Replace when it cools down.
Prescription for persistent muscle cramps:
For males, manually pull the genitalia. For females, pull the breasts near the lateral edges.
