Formula for treating scars remaining after the healing of various types of carbuncles, swellings, and malignant sores.
Anxi Xiang (Benzoin Gum, also known as Nüwei) [Note: Anxi Xiang is Benzoin; Nüwei refers to Cynanchum stauntonii, but here it's an alternative name/variant in text], Fanshi (Alumen), Yelangdu (Radix Daphnes Genkwa), Yangzhizhu (Rhododendri Mollis Flos), Wutou (Aconiti Radix), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Yege (Gelsemii Radix), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Wuzeigu (Sepiae Endoconcha), Zaojia (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus Spina), Tianxiong (Aconiti Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Chishizhi (Halloysit Rubra), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Mangcao (Illicii Veri Fructus - *Note: Contextually likely distinct from Star Anise, often refers to Magnolia or similar aromatic herb in ancient texts, but literal translation is Mangcao*), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Gadihuang (Rehmanniae Radix), Diyu (Sanguisorbae Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Xuduan (Dipsaci Radix), Guijiu (Podophylli Peltati Rhizoma et Radix), Shujiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium).
The above twenty-six medicinal materials are pounded into powder. Mix with four jin (approx. 2 kg) of rendered lard that has been previously boiled. Decoct together using the "three ups and three downs" method (heating until boiling, removing from heat, repeating three times). Add one large spoonful of fine salt. Once the ointment is prepared, if internal use is required, administer orally. If external application is needed, apply topically, avoiding the eye area. Contraindicated in pregnancy. To remove scars, first rub the affected area with a cloth to cause slight injury, then apply the ointment. For nasal polyps, insert a piece the size of a soybean into the nostril. For blood stasis, swallow a piece the size of a jujube pit with wine. For hemorrhoids and fistulas, wrap a piece the size of a plum stone in cotton and insert into the lower orifice (anus). For wind-stroke, massage onto the affected area until healed. For metrorrhagia (heavy uterine bleeding), this can also be inserted internally. To remove scars, mix a small amount of the ointment with white eagle droppings and apply. It is most effective when prepared on the last day of the lunar year (La Yue). (*Qianjin Yifang* includes one liang of Shi Liuhuang).

Burn one rat skin to ash, grind into powder, and apply to the sore hole.
Another formula:
Chew well-cooked soybeans thoroughly and apply to the affected area.
Another formula:
Stir-fry black sesame seeds until dark brown and fully cooked, pound them, and apply.
Another formula:
Apply cow dung to the affected area; change when dry.
Another formula:
Burn old rush mats to ash, mix with lard rendered in the twelfth lunar month, and insert into the sore hole.
Formula for treating carbuncles and furuncles that do not heal for a long time:
Juice extracted from Portulaca oleracea (Machi Cai) is decocted and applied to the affected area.
Formula for treating carbuncles where pus continues to flow after ulceration, and sores injured by various objects that do not heal:
Shi Liuhuang Fen (Powdered Sulfur).
Take one stick of chopsticks, crush one end slightly, moisten it, dip it into the sulfur powder, and use it to probe the sore hole until the sore heals.
Formula for treating abnormal tissue growth resembling an eye within a carbuncle, unresponsive to other medications:
Peel Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) and shape it like a chess piece. Place it on the swelling and secure it with saliva. Roast over fire until the Fuzi is nearly burnt. Moisten again with saliva and roast. Repeat this process three times. The penetrating heat of the Fuzi will reach the interior, leading to healing. This method is extremely effective.
