Formula for treating carbuncles and swellings.
Songzhi (Resina Pini, Pine Resin) [1 jin 1/2], Zhuzhi (Suis Medulla, Pig Marrow/Fat) [1 he 1/2], Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, Scutellaria Root), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, Coptis Rhizome), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, Phellodendron Bark), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, Rhubarb Root), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Dong Quai Root), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix, Peony Root), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Szechwan Lovage Rhizome).
The above eight ingredients are cut into small pieces, combined with the two fats, and decocted over a gentle fire. The mixture is lifted and lowered three times to ensure even heating. It is then strained through cotton cloth to remove the dregs. The residue is heated by fire and applied on paper, adhering it to the swelling according to its size. The dressing is changed three times daily, leading to recovery.
Another formula: Songzhi (Resina Pini, Pine Resin) [1 jin], Zhuzhi (Suis Medulla, Pig Marrow/Fat) [1/2 jin], Bala (Cera Flava, Yellow Beeswax) [4 liang], Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, Rhubarb Root) [1 liang], Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, Scutellaria Root), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, Coptis Rhizome), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, Phellodendron Bark), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Dong Quai Root), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix, Peony Root), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Szechwan Lovage Rhizome), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, Asarum Root), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, Dahurian Angelica Root), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, Divaricate Saposhnikovia Root), Mangcao (Agastaches Herba, Patchouli Herb), Bailian (Trollfacii Bulbus, Trollius Bulb) [each 1/2 liang].
The above fifteen ingredients are cut into small pieces. First, the two fats and beeswax are decocted until melted. Then, the remaining herbs are added, and the mixture is decocted using the "three lifts and three lowers" method. It is strained through cotton and linen cloth, poured into water to form cakes, and a small amount is heated by fire and applied on oiled paper to the affected area.
