Moxibustion at the midpoint between the big toes of both feet will lead to recovery; apply according to the left or right side of the disease.
Formula for treating early-stage carbuncles where swelling is just beginning and needs to be resolved:
Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Tong Cao (Tetrapanacis Medulla), Ting Li (Lepidii Semen), Mang Cao (Maeserae Radix) (equal parts).
Grind the above four herbs into powder, mix with water, apply to the affected area, and replace when dry.
Another formula:
Take Sang Dang (Daturae Semen) powder, a quantity held by three fingers, mix with water and take orally, three times a day. Highly effective.
Formula for treating carbuncles:
Grind Yuan Hua (Genkwa Flos) into powder, mix with adhesive material to a porridge-like consistency, and apply.
Formula for treating carbuncles and ulcers occurring in hidden areas of the abdomen and back, with dozens of carbuncles throughout the body:
Take dry cow dung, burn it to ash, sieve it finely, mix with egg white, apply to the area, and replace when dry.
Formula for cases where pus has already formed and gathered:
Grind Gua Lou Gen (Trichosanthis Radix) into powder, mix with vinegar (Ku Jiu), apply, and replace when dry. Chi Xiao Dou (Adzuki Bean) powder is also good.
Formula for promoting drainage of pus in swollen carbuncles:
Burn 30 to 70 chicken feathers (Ji Yu) into powder, ingest orally to promote rupture and drainage.
Another formula:
Mix human milk (Ren Ru) with flour, apply to the affected area. By dawn, all pus and blood will discharge; do not touch with hands.
Formula for treating initial onset of back carbuncles, or cases lasting over ten days with severe redness, swelling, heat, intense toxin qi, continuous day and night pain, and resistance to other medicines:
One egg (Ji Zi), fresh dog feces (Gou Shi) equal in size to an egg.
Mix the above two ingredients thoroughly, simmer gently until the consistency is appropriate, shape into a cake, and apply firmly to the hardest part of the swelling. Secure with paper and wrap with cloth.
Check frequently; replace the cake when it feels hot. Do not allow movement or interruption of heat application. Leave overnight for definite effect. For patients with long-standing conditions, apply for three consecutive days, changing once daily, until recovery. This formula has a foul odor and is unsuitable for nobility, but its curative efficacy surpasses all other formulas; other prescriptions are merely supplementary. Practitioners should master this formula for emergency use.
For treating various fistulas, malignant sores, thirteen types of Ding swellings, five-colored wandering swellings, toxic heat from carbuncles and boils, fox thorns, snake venom, injuries from rabid dogs, insects, wild wolves, and livestock that are unidentifiable, chronic open wounds lasting twenty years, and wind-stroke: apply this ointment. Recovery occurs when foul pus is completely discharged. It stops pain and generates flesh. One application lasts without replacement; simply wipe off the pus on the ointment once a day before reapplying, until healed.
Sheng Wu Ma You (Sesame Oil), Huang Dan (Lithargyrum), La (Beeswax).
Combine the above three ingredients. On the eve of the Laba Festival, starting from noon, place the oil in a copper vessel and simmer gently until dawn. When the oil volume reduces by one unit, add Huang Dan and dissolve completely. Then add Beeswax until foaming subsides. The medicine is ready by noon. Only men should prepare this. Prevent children, women, and livestock from seeing the preparation process.
External application formula for treating various swellings:
Zi Ge (Akebiae Caulis) (10 parts), Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (5 parts), Qing Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix) (1 part), Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix), Bai Lian (Ampelopsis Radix), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Yu Bai Pi (Ulmus Cortex), Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), You Ba (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma).
Process and sieve the above eleven herbs. Mix with fresh Di Huang Zhi (Rehmanniae Juice) to a mud-like consistency, apply to the swelling, and replace when dry. If Di Huang Zhi is unavailable, use rice vinegar.
