To treat carbuncles that are hard as stone nodules, which enlarge but do not change color, or have formed a "Shi Yong" (Stone Carbuncle):
Culi Huangshi (Coarse-textured Yellow Stone) (one jin), Lujiao (Deer Antler) (half a jin, calcined), Bailian (Ampelopsis Radix) (three liang).
Take the above three ingredients, add five sheng of vinegar. Heat stones until red-hot and immerse them in the vinegar repeatedly without limit, until the vinegar reduces by half. Pulverize the ingredients finely into powder. Mix with the remaining vinegar to form a paste. Apply thickly to the affected area. Replace when dry. Continue until cured. After consumption, prepare a new batch. These medicines can also be used for various fistulas and scrofula. Additionally, use fire needles to puncture the head of the lesion to break it open, then apply the medicine. Alternatively, grinding Deer Antler alone or mixing Banxia (Pinellia Rhizome) powder for external application is less effective than the aforementioned formula.
Formula for treating Shi Yong (Stone Carbuncle) that is hard as stone and does not suppurate:
Fresh Shanglu Gen (Phytolaccae Radix), pounded thoroughly, applied externally. Replace when dry. Continue until the hardness softens.
Also treats wet leaks and various carbuncles/furuncles.
Another formula: Shusanggen Baipi (Bark of Mulberry Root from Shu region), dried in shade and pulverized. Melt Jiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin), mix with wine and the medicine, apply to the swelling to extract the root cause.
Another formula: Langdang Zi (Datura Seed) pulverized, mixed with vinegar, applied to the sore to extract the root cause.
Another formula: She Tuipi (Snake Slough) applied to the area; recovery occurs after one night.
Another formula: One Li Zi (Oak Acorn). Grind with vinegar on a bluestone. Apply to the swelling. Reapply when dry. Not exceeding ten applications results in cure.
Another formula: Liangshang Chen (Dust from Roof Beams) and Kuigenjing Hui (Ash of Malva Root and Stem) in equal parts.
Mix the above two ingredients with vinegar and apply to the affected area for cure.
Another formula: Moxibustion at the site for one hundred Zhu (units of moxa cone size/burns). The stone should fragment and discharge. If it does not discharge, increasing the number of Zhu is better. Any swelling that becomes extremely hard with a fixed root is named Shi Yong (Stone Carbuncle).
Formula for treating malignant toxic swelling attached to the scrotum or on one side, causing painful spasms and pulling pain in the lower abdomen that is unbearable, potentially fatal within one night:
Extract juice from Huilao Cao (Fennel Herb), drink one sheng, taken three to four times daily. Apply the dregs to the swelling. In winter, if fresh herb is unavailable, the root may be used.
Formula for treating Wind-Lao toxic swelling, painful spasms, or pulling pain in the lower abdomen and lumbar/thigh region:
Use one sheng of Taoren (Peach Kernel), grind it. Mix with three sheng of wine. Take all at once. Cover with thick clothing and blankets to induce sweating. Recovery occurs within no more than three doses.
Formula for treating leg edema extending upward to the abdomen, which is fatal:
Use one dou of Chixiaodou (Adzuki Bean). Boil in three dou of water until soft. Remove the beans. Soak the feet in the bean decoction up to the knees. Once daily. Stop when cured. If the condition has entered the abdomen, soaking is unnecessary; simply boil and eat the beans. Avoid salt, vegetables, rice, and flour. Drink the decoction when thirsty. Stop when cured.
