Treats internal accumulation of blood stasis due to failure to induce sweating in cases of Shanghan (Cold Damage) and Wenbing (Warm Diseases) where sweating should have been induced, as well as persistent epistaxis (nosebleed) and hematemesis (vomiting blood) with residual intra-abdominal blood stasis. It addresses symptoms such as black stools and yellowish complexion, serving as a formula to resolve blood stasis.
Xijiao (Rhinoceros Horn, 1 liang) Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens, 8 liang) Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 3 liang) Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex, 2 liang)
Crush the above four ingredients. Decoct in nine sheng of water until three sheng remain. Divide into three doses. If the patient exhibits delirious speech or manic behavior akin to madness, add Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 2 liang) and Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 3 liang). If the pulse is large but slow in arrival, and the abdomen feels full despite not being distended, this indicates an absence of heat; adhere strictly to the original formula without additions.
Formula for treating hematemesis and epistaxis caused by heat accumulation in the five zang organs:
Fulonggan (Dragon's House Soil, size of one chicken egg) Shengzhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam, 1 sheng) Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 2 liang each) Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens, 1 jin)
Crush the above eight ingredients. Decoct in thirteen sheng of water, first boiling Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam) until the volume reduces by three sheng. Then add the remaining herbs and decoct until two sheng remain. Divide into three doses. (Qianjin Yifang includes Guixin [Cinnamomi Ramulus].)
Formula for treating epistaxis and hematemesis.
Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini, 2 liang each) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 3 liang)
Crush the above five ingredients. Decoct in six sheng of water until two sheng remain. Divide into three doses.
Formula for treating damage to the upper jiao and diaphragm by heat, manifesting as hematemesis, epistaxis, or continuous lower bleeding for several days, potentially fatal. This formula is indicated for these conditions:
Aiye (Artemisiae Argyi Folium) Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam, 1 sheng each) Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini, size of a palm) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 2 liang)
Crush the above four ingredients. Decoct in three sheng of water until one sheng remains. Strain the dregs. Add Banmatongzhi (Juice of Horse Dung, 0.5 sheng) and decoct until one sheng remains. Take in one dose. Prepare fresh horse dung, mix with a small amount of water, squeeze and wring out the juice, and administer.
(An alternative prescription omits Zhuru and increases Ganjiang to seven liang.)
Formula for treating deficiency consumption (Xulao) presenting with metrorrhagia (Bengzhong), hematemesis, lower bleeding, shortness of breath, impending respiratory failure, and a complexion as dark as lacquer:
Huangqi (Astragali Radix) Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 4 liang each) Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 1 jin)
Crush the above five ingredients. Soak in five sheng of wine overnight. On the following morning, add five sheng of water and decoct until four sheng remain. Divide into four doses: three during the day and one at night. The sensation upon ingestion may feel like cold poison entering the yin region, dissipating rapidly like snow melting under hot water. Note: Do not soak herbs overnight during summer months. For habitual wine drinkers suffering from hemorrhoidal bleeding due to labor-heat and anal heat, omit Shengjiang and substitute with Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens). When administering...
