Formula for treating immobility of the waist and hips, and spasmodic swelling of both feet:
Chuanjiao (Fructus Zanthoxyli) 4 sheng, boiled in 4 dou of water until the volume reduces to 2.5 dou. Store in an urn. Place fire underneath to keep it warm. Suspend a board as a bridge over the urn, approximately 2 cun above the liquid surface. Sit on the board with feet resting on supports, sealing the gaps tightly with cotton wadding to prevent steam leakage. If fatigued, step out; return to bed, apply powder and massage for about the time it takes to eat one meal, then re-enter the urn. Keep the fire under the urn continuous so that the liquid does not cool. Through such care, within seven days, mobility will be restored and swelling will subside.
