Treats the condition of extreme deficiency-heat in flesh, muscle bi (muscle obstruction syndrome characterized by sensations like mice crawling), and leakage of body fluids; or numbness and insensitivity, with acute pain and stiffness in the four limbs.
Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜) [each 3 liang], Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当帰), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao, 石膏) [each 2 liang], Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 川芎), Cinnamomi Cortex (Guixin, 桂心), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 黄芩), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Shaoyao, 芍药) [each 1 liang], Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Xingren, 杏仁) [40 seeds].
The above eleven ingredients are coarsely crushed. Boil Ephedrae Herba in nine sheng of water first, skim off the foam, then add the remaining herbs. Decoct to obtain three sheng of liquid, strain out the dregs, and divide into four doses. Take twice daily.
Treats extreme heat in flesh leading to depletion of body fluids, opening of cou-li (pores and skin texture), profuse sweating, and downward flow of Li Feng Qi (severe wind pathogen) causing weakness in the lower limbs and feet. (See formulas in Volume Seven).
Treats extreme heat in flesh causing sensations on the body as if mice are crawling, or resembling wind-bi, with ulceration of lips and mouth, and changes in skin color. It governs various severe wind diseases.
Acanthopanacis Senticosi Caulis (Shinan, 石南), Dioscoreae Rhizoma (Shuyu, 薯蓣), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Shaoyao, 芍药) [or Gancao, 甘草], Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata (Tianxiong, 天雄), Prunus Persica Flos (Taohua, 桃花) [or Semen Armeniacae Amarum, Taoren, 桃仁], Chrysanthemi Flos (Ganjuhua, 甘菊花) [each 1 liang], Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai, 黄柏), Margarita (Zhenzhu, 真珠) [each 18 zhu], Corni Fructus (Shanzhuyu, 山茱萸) [1 liang 18 zhu], Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao, 石膏) [2 liang], Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma, 升麻), Polygonati Rhioma (Weirui, 葳蕤) [each 1.5 liang].
The above twelve ingredients are processed and sifted into powder. Administer one fangcunbi (a square-inch measure) with wine after meals, twice daily.
Treats extreme deficiency-cold in flesh resulting in Pi Feng (Spleen Wind), Yin movement, and Shanghan (cold damage); symptoms include heavy body, lethargy, inability to lift the four limbs, joint pain, poor appetite, and sallow complexion.
Cinnamomi Cortex (Guixin, 桂心), Morinda Officinalis Radix (Bajitian, 巴戟天), Dendrobii Caulis (Shihu, 石斛), Platycodi Semen (Baiziren, 柏子仁), Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie, 泽泻), Poria (Fuling, 茯苓), Zingiberis Rhizoma (Ganjiang, 干姜), Zanthoxyli Pericarpium (Shujiao, 蜀椒) [each 3 liang], Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风), Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (Duhuo, 独活), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参) [each 2 liang], Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata (Tianxiong, 天雄), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Shaoyao, 芍药), Aconiti Radix Preparata (Fuzi, 附子), Aconiti Radix (Wutou, 乌头), Berberidis Rhizoma (Yinyu, 茵芋), Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia, 半夏), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin, 细辛), Trichosanthis Radix (Gualougen, 栝蒌根), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu, 白术), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 黄芩), Corni Fructus (Shanzhuyu, 山茱萸) [each 1 liang].
The above twenty-three ingredients are coarsely crushed, placed in a silk bag, and soaked in three dou of clear wine. Soak for seven days in autumn/winter, or three days in spring/summer. Start with a dose of three he, gradually increasing until a slight intoxication is achieved. Take twice daily.
Treats sudden stroke due to extreme deficiency-cold in flesh, characterized by locked jaw and inability to speak, flaccidity of the four limbs or unilateral spasmodic pain, vagueness of the five zang organs' spirit, irregular joy and anger, and loss of motor control in hands and feet.
Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (Duhuo, 独活), Berberidis Rhizoma (Yinyu, 茵芋), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 黄芩) [each 3 liang], Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Shaoyao, 芍药), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 川芎), Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄), Puerariae Lobatae Radix (Gegen, 葛根) [each 2 liang], Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参) [1 liang], Aconiti Radix (Wutou, 乌头) [3 pieces].
The above eleven ingredients are coarsely crushed. Decoct together with ten dou of water and four sheng of Bamboo Juice (Zhuli, 竹沥) to obtain four sheng of liquid. Divide into four doses. Take three times during the day and once at night.
