A prescription for treating Spleen deficiency and cold, exhaustion, Qi distension, belching, abdominal fullness, inability to eat, and frequent belching.
Zhu Gao (Pig Fat) (3 sheng) Su Jiang (Dried Ginger Juice) (5 sheng) Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus) (1 sheng) Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) (1 jin).
The above four ingredients: crush the Evodiae Fructus and Atractylodis Rhizoma, sift them finely into powder, add to the pig fat and ginger juice, decoct until reduced to 6 sheng, add 1 sheng of warm clear wine, take one fang cun bi (a square-inch measure) per dose, twice daily.
(One treatise, six prescriptions)
The treatise states: In cases of Rou Ji (Extreme Muscle Disorder), it is primarily related to the Spleen. The Spleen corresponds to muscles; muscles and the Spleen are internally connected. If the Spleen is diseased, the color of the muscles changes. It is also said that when the body at the extreme of Yin encounters disease, it becomes Ji Bi (Muscle Bi Syndrome). If Ji Bi persists and is re-exposed to pathogenic factors, the pathogens enter inwardly and lodge in the Spleen. The body experiences itching, with a sensation like rats crawling under the skin. The patient's body fluids are depleted, the Cou Li (pores/interstices) open, and there is profuse sweating. Yellow discoloration of the nasal tip is a sign.
When Wind Qi hides in the skin, the muscle color deteriorates. Injury by wind on Wu or Ji days during the late summer is called Pi Feng (Spleen Wind). The manifestations of Spleen Wind include excessive sweating, genital movement, contraction from cold injury. Cold leads to deficiency; deficiency leads to heavy body and lethargy, reluctance to lift the limbs, aversion to food, coughing upon eating, pain in the right hypochondrium radiating to the shoulder and back upon coughing, making turning difficult. This is named Li Feng (Severe Wind), characterized by internal deficiency and external excess. If Yang moves and injures with heat, heat leads to excess; excess manifests as a crawling sensation on the body, corruption of lips and mouth, change in skin color, depletion of body fluids, opening of Cou Li, and profuse sweating. This is named E Feng (Malignant Wind). One must determine the principles, understand the beginning and end, the dynamics of Yin and Yang, and the excess or deficiency of muscles. Excess is treated by purging, deficiency by tonifying. To cure this disease, one must intervene decisively when the wind first enters the muscles, skin, flesh, and sinews. If it enters the Six Fu Organs or Five Zang Organs, death is half certain.
Bian Que said: In cases of Rou Jue (Muscle Extinction), if untreated, death occurs in five days. How do we know? Because the skin is blocked, preventing the outward discharge of pathogens. Muscles correspond to the Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian. When Taiyin Qi is exhausted, the lips invert; when Qi is exhausted, muscles die first. On Jia days (Wood prevails), the condition worsens; on Yi days, death occurs due to Wood overcoming Earth. Even with excellent physicians and miraculous medicines, it ultimately cannot be cured.
For treating extreme muscle heat, Ji Bi, itching like rats crawling, depletion of body fluids, open Cou Li, and profuse sweating, which belongs to Pi Feng (Spleen Wind). Wind Qi hides in the skin, muscle color deteriorates, yellow appears on the nose. Use Mahuang Zhi Han Tong Rou Fang (Ephedra Decoction to Stop Sweating and Unblock Muscles).
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) Fang Ji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix) [alternative: Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix)] Zhi Shi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) (each 3 liang) Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (each 4 liang) Gan Cao Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus cum Cortex / Cinnamon Twig with Bark) (each 2 liang) Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (8 liang).
The above ten ingredients: coarsely crush, decoct with 9 sheng of water starting with Ephedrae Herba, remove foam, add other herbs, decoct to obtain 3 sheng, divide into three doses.
