病人与病魔、世俗搏斗一年多,走过的道路艰辛难言,曾遇到多次难关而差点无法 坚持活下去。幸有大医如先生者方有今日!我了解病人比较多,她是个坚强独立的 女孩。新闻报道中她之所以匿名,是不愿意因此受人怜悯,得到物质上的恩惠。曾 有人辗转寻找到她给予物质援助,她感谢之余都一一拒绝。她以一颗平常心面对病 魔和死亡,而以无比的勇敢和母性为孩子带来生命,此情此心,我可以做个见证;

Woman diagnosed with leukemia 50 days into pregnancy; risks life to stop medication for cesarean delivery tomorrow
"He is more punctual than an alarm clock; he wakes up at this time every day, swimming in my belly!" At 4 p.m. yesterday, in the obstetrics ward of a certain hospital in Chengdu, 24-year-old Yue Yan (pseudonym) placed her hand on her high, protruding abdomen, a smile playing on her lips.
A year and a half ago, Yue Yan was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (chronic myelogenous leukemia). More than seven months ago, upon learning of her pregnancy, she disregarded the objections of doctors and family members, stopped chemotherapy, and gambled her own life in exchange for the birth of a new life. Tomorrow, Yue Yan will undergo a cesarean section.
The story of the stubborn girl: The leukemic patient who wanted to have a child
As the youngest child, 24-year-old Yue Yan was doted on by her family, but being independent since childhood, she had a stubborn personality and strove for the best in everything. Last year, while studying abroad in another province, she fainted and was subsequently diagnosed with leukemia at West China Hospital of Sichuan University. After Yue Yan fell ill, her estranged husband also rushed to see her. Having not had children since marriage, Yue Yan joyfully discovered at this moment that she was already 50 days pregnant.
Upon learning that Yue Yan, suffering from leukemia, was pregnant and intended to give birth, Professor Liu Ting, Director of the Hematology Department at West China Hospital, firmly opposed it. Many hematologists in Beijing and Chengdu were consulted, and all opinions were consistent: This child cannot be kept! Everyone was worried: Can a critically ill mother withstand such a major surgery? Will the born child be healthy?
But the stubborn Yue Yan persisted. To avoid adverse effects of other medications on the fetus, Yue Yan resolutely stopped taking medication. An ultrasound examination at 6 months showed: The child is completely healthy! Yue Yan breathed a sigh of relief.
Online stories: Friends post online seeking medical help for her
Yue Yan, staying at home to protect the fetus, occasionally went online. Many netizens were deeply moved by Yue Yan's story, and countless blessings and care began to spread across the internet.
A reporter found posts related to "Yue Yan" on a certain website, posted under the name "Panghuang," with the earliest post dated May 8th of this year.
"My friend (female, 23 years old) was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia half a year ago. Recently, it was discovered that she is already two months pregnant. My friend has never had children and very much hopes to keep this child, even if it costs her life. She has already stopped Western medicine."
"The professor at the hospital told her, first, do not stop Western medicine, otherwise she may likely not survive until the child is born; second, because she has taken hydroxyurea for two months after becoming pregnant, the child may be affected; third, leukemia may be inherited by the child; fourth, even if none of the above situations occur, pregnancy and childbirth pose significant risks for leukemia patients. She is in great pain now, but time waits for no one; the child is growing day by day, and fetal heartbeat is visible via ultrasound."
Early morning of May 9th, "Panghuang" posted again: "Consultations with Western doctors almost universally said the child should not be kept. One doctor said it could be kept, but Western medicine cannot be stopped. The patient really wants the child, but fears the risk of fetal deformity, and pregnancy and childbirth may also pose significant risks to her. What should be done? Should the child be kept? Please advise, sir."
On May 12th, "Panghuang" posted: "My friend has decided to keep the child and has therefore stopped all Western medicines."
However, events seemed to take many twists and turns. Shortly after stopping Western medicine and taking Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), "Panghuang" posted: "Ten days ago, I stopped Western medicine and switched to TCM, yet within just ten days, the white blood cell count rose from 10,000 to 16,000." Subsequently, online contact ceased. The reporter learned that they had switched to telephone communication. In a prenatal checkup, abnormal fetal position was found, which poses significant risks. She took TCM again, hoping to correct the fetal position. Tomorrow's surgery is entirely for the child's future.
Yesterday morning, Yue Yan was admitted to the hospital. "If the baby is sick, we won't keep it." A sentence from her sister at noon yesterday agitated Yue Yan; she cried under her blanket, "Regardless of whether he is healthy or sick, as long as I have breath, I will definitely raise the child." Seeing her daughter with swollen eyes from crying, her mother sighed: "I will raise him/her, I will definitely raise the baby."
Yesterday afternoon, Professor Yang Yiming, a hematology expert from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, came to the obstetrics department for consultation. "Currently, the patient is in the chronic phase of leukemia, and her overall condition is relatively good; there are no special requirements for delivery." Yue Yan's cesarean section is scheduled for tomorrow. Regarding tomorrow's surgery, the doctors maintain cautious optimism.
For the child's future, at 5 p.m. yesterday, Yue Yan signed an agreement with the Sichuan Province Umbilical Cord Blood Stem Cell Center. She stored the child's umbilical cord blood at the center for 20 years, creating a "backup" for his/her life. Additionally, this agreement included insurance; if the child develops leukemia or three other diseases during the insurance period, compensation can be obtained.
Before leaving, Yue Yan made a request to the reporter: If she cannot survive the surgery tomorrow, she hopes to donate her useful organs. Her only hope is that the recipient can see the child on her behalf.

P.S. The report seems inconsistent with the facts.

To Mr. Sanqi and Mr. Ziji:
This reporter became friends with the patient earlier due to reporting on the patient's condition. Deeply moved by the patient's decision to risk her life to give birth, she wanted to report this matter to inspire fellow patients. To boost the morale of leukemia patients, the patient agreed to accept the interview. Since this matter was not approved by you, and the patient has been hospitalized and unable to go online to contact you (I was on a business trip and just returned to Chengdu), the patient withheld some details in her narrative to avoid bringing unnecessary trouble to you. I sincerely hope you understand!
The patient has been fighting against the disease and worldly pressures for over a year. The path she walked was arduous and hard to describe; she encountered multiple critical difficulties and nearly failed to persist in living. Fortunately, having great physicians like you led to today's situation! I know the patient quite well; she is a strong and independent girl. The reason she remained anonymous in the news report was that she did not want to receive pity or material benefits because of this. Someone had sought her out through various means to provide material aid, which she gratefully but firmly refused one by one. She faces illness and death with an ordinary mind, and brings life to the child with immense courage and maternal love. This sentiment and heart, I can bear witness to;
I also saw this article yesterday. If there are any inappropriate aspects regarding this matter, I hope you will show understanding and tolerance. I apologize to you on her behalf!
For the patient, she has currently passed the first hurdle with your assistance. In the future, she still faces difficulties such as continued treatment and raising the child, and still needs your help. We look forward to you continuing to help her, helping this unfortunate girl, this great mother.
Thank you once again!

2004/12/01 11:14pm
At 17:36 today, the patient gave birth to a female infant via cesarean section (gestational age 38 weeks), weighing 5 jin 3 liang (approx. 2.65 kg). Length 45 cm. The doctor said the child appears healthy currently.
Everyone is very happy; the patient and her family express heartfelt thanks for your great virtue!
Later, it was learned that dangers occurred during the delivery process: The patient bled 300 ml; due to poor coagulation function, the doctor took twice as long as normal to stop the bleeding; the child had no breathing or heartbeat after birth; the doctor used cardiac massage and airway clearance, etc., and it took 2-3 minutes before the child cried. The doctor said that due to the child's special condition, follow-up observation will be needed in the future.
The surgery used general anesthesia; post-operatively, no pain patches were used, but painkiller injections were administered (the patient endured severe pain). Post-operative intravenous infusion: Glucose, Oxytocin, Hemostatics.
From the patient's mother, it was learned that the patient loved cold drinks since childhood, had good health before illness, and could pass winter wearing only light clothing; after a minor head injury in a car accident, she frequently suffered headaches, and after taking a joint-stock painkiller, she developed leukemia.
Yesterday's blood test indicators showed white blood cells at 23,000, others normal.
Feedback as above, please instruct, sir.

Personally, I have no issue, but I feel that since a public report was made, the role played by Traditional Chinese Medicine in this matter should be understood truthfully by readers, rather than leading readers to mistakenly believe that TCM treatment ended there—"Ten days ago, I stopped Western medicine and switched to TCM, yet within just ten days, the white blood cell count rose from 10,000 to 16,000." This causes readers to lose faith in TCM again and creates undue misunderstanding. This might be related to the reporter's subjective attitude towards TCM?
Sanqi Sheng
2004/12/01 11:23pm
Good news. Administer the ten herbs to the patient as soon as possible. Absolutely do not use hormones and antibiotics anymore. Leukemia is caused by the abuse of medications. I hope when this reporter reports again, readers can learn something truly reminding and instructive for them.

"The patient loved cold drinks since childhood, and could pass winter wearing only light clothing" is actually a sign of Internal Cold (Nei Han). People with this constitution are prone to developing leukemia; absolutely do not use any antibiotics or cooling/cold-natured medicines.

Sir speaks extremely correctly! I will discuss and communicate this with the reporter to make them understand your words.
Her concern is that after the report, incidents like "black websites" or "blocked websites" might occur again, which would be very detrimental to many fellow patients looking forward to your skilled hands.
As long as she can resume drinking water, let her immediately resume TCM. I will feedback her condition promptly.
Thank you once again!

Quoting content posted by Panghuang on 2004/12/01 11:14pm:
"It was learned from the patient's mother that the patient loved cold drinks since childhood, had good health before illness, and could pass winter wearing only light clothing; after a minor head injury in a car accident, she frequently suffered headaches, and after taking a joint-stock painkiller, she developed leukemia."
Cold-dampness accumulates internally, first disturbing the Five Viscera. Then taking painkillers, antibiotics, and other drugs, especially foreign or joint-stock drugs, some of which lack clinical basis, are blindly imported or produced, using Third World country people as experiments. After taking such drugs, the cold-damp toxic qi intensifies and invades the congenital root, the Kidney. The Kidney generates bone, bone generates marrow, causing internal marrow disease. This is the standard etiology of leukemia. Followed by chemotherapy, the person is doomed!
The Western medical theory for this disease is fundamentally wrong. The onset of this disease is also a side effect of taking Western medicine.
This physician is currently treating another blood disease patient with thrombocythemia (increased platelet count); its etiology is intravenous drips for blood vessel patency three times a year. The disease onset occurred during one drip process.

Today I read the continuous reports of yesterday's news, which completely omitted the role played by TCM in this matter (only mentioning encouragement). This actually reflects the entire society's attitude towards TCM; reading it chills the heart! From the beginning of treatment, I have said that Western medicine's understanding of this disease is erroneous. The reason we reached today is entirely due to the patient's decisive cessation of Western medicine and persistence in taking TCM. If she instead continues to accept Western medicine treatment and undergoes "anti-inflammatory" therapy again, the consequences will be unimaginable. Whether to proceed or retreat, please let the patient decide herself.

My opinion is to not use any "-interferon/-statin/etc." (referring to synthetic drugs ending in -fen/-statin etc., metaphorically "su"). Don't forget this disease was contracted from these substances.

Indeed as Sir says; when hospital doctors hear that TCM is used to treat leukemia, they shake their heads, as if it were heterodox, making communication impossible. The hospital treated this successful delivery as a publicity opportunity, inviting media for interviews, showing no consideration for the patient. Reporters even used flash photography on the baby; the scene was chaotic, extremely infuriating. Material interests made them forget the fundamental nature of being human; pitiable and hateful!
I will convey your opinions to the patient in person shortly. Fortunately, she will be in the hospital for at most 5 days; after returning home, she can focus on taking your TCM to thoroughly defeat the disease.
