*Guangji Fang* treats nine types of heartache (Jiuzhong Xintong), as well as cold qi pain caused by roundworms (Hui Chong). The pain starts from both hypochondriac regions, radiating to the chest and back with severe cramping pain, accompanied by a sensation of wanting to vomit. Danggui Heshi San Formula.
Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) (8 fen), Heshi (Fructus Carpesii) (8 fen), Jupi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) (6 fen), Renshen (Radix Ginseng) (6 fen), Binglang (Arecae Semen) (12 fen), Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus) (6 fen, processed with bran/stir-fried).
The above eight herbs are crushed, sifted into a fine powder. Taken on an empty stomach with ginger and jujube decoction, one fangcunbi (a measure for powder) at a time, twice daily. Gradually increase to one and a half fangcunbi if there is no diarrhea. Avoid raw green onions, raw/cold foods, greasy foods, and sticky foods. (From Volume 4)
*Qianjin Fang* treats nine types of heartache: 1. Worm heartache (Chong Xintong), 2. Transmission/Flowing heartache (Zhu Xintong - pain caused by pathogenic factors flowing through meridians), 3. Qi heartache (Qi Xintong), 4. Palpitation heartache (Ji Xintong), 5. Food heartache (Shi Xintong), 6. Drink/Water heartache (Yin Xintong), 7. Cold heartache (Leng Xintong), 8. Heat heartache (Re Xintong), 9. Wandering/Intermittent heartache (Qulai Xintong - pain that comes and goes). This formula treats all of the above. It also treats rebellious cold qi rushing upward, and injuries from falling off horses or vehicles. Fuzi Wan Formula.
Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata) (1 liang, processed), Badouren (Semen Crotonis Tiglii, kernel removed, skin removed, stir-fried) (1 liang), Renshen (Radix Ginseng) (1 liang), Sheng Yelangdu (Radix Euphorbiae Humifusae, stir-fried until very fragrant) (1 liang), Shizhuyu (Fructus Zanthoxyli Bungeani) (1 liang), Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Secati) (1 liang).
The above six herbs are ground into powder and mixed with honey to form pills. Taken on an empty stomach, three pills the size of a loquat seed at a time, once daily. Those with weak constitutions take two pills. For sudden onset of nausea and heartache where one cannot speak, or for chronic accumulated cold causing pain in the chest and heart due to flowing cold qi, this formula is also effective. Pay attention to recuperation; it is miraculous. Avoid wild boar meat and reeds. (*Bixiao Fang* and *Jingxin Lu* are consistent with this.)
Another formula for treating nine types of heartache:
Take a handful of fresh new branches from locust trees (Huai Shu) growing in the direction of the Tai Sui (Grand Duke Jupiter) for that year, removing the top and bottom ends. Boil in three sheng of water until reduced to one sheng. Take in one dose. (All from Volume 13)
*Guangji Fang* treats various worm-induced heartaches, regardless of whether they are cold or heat types involving roundworms. Binglang Heshi San Formula.
Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Jiegeng (Radix Platycodonis), Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba/Rubra), Jupi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Heshi (Fructus Carpesii) (each 8 fen), Renshen (Radix Ginseng) (6 fen), Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi) (6 fen), Binglang (Arecae Semen) (10 fen).
The above eight herbs are crushed, sifted into a fine powder. Taken on an empty stomach with ginger and jujube decoction, one fangcunbi at a time. Gradually increase to two fangcunbi if there is no diarrhea. Avoid pork, raw green onions, greasy foods, adzuki beans, and sticky foods.
Another formula for treating roundworm heartache that has persisted for years without healing:
Take five ge of vinegar. Red-hot copper coins (two wen) are quenched in the vinegar. Then, take one egg white, remove the coins, and pour the egg white into the vinegar. Take in one dose. There are no dietary restrictions.
Another formula mainly for unceasing twisting pain in the heart and abdomen, feeling as if there are roundworms: Danggui Tang Formula.
Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Jupi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Xixin (Herba Asari), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata), Shengjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens) (each 4 fen), Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, soaked separately) (8 fen), Heshi (Fructus Carpesii) (2 fen).
The above seven herbs are cut, boiled in six sheng of water until reduced to two sheng. Divide into three warm doses. Take one dose every four to five li of walking distance. Stop if diarrhea occurs. If not healed, prepare and take again after three days. Avoid seaweed, Chinese cabbage (Songcai), and raw vegetables. (*Jiuji Fang* is consistent with this, from Volume 4)
Wenzhong Danggui Tang from *Duanju Fang*. Treats sudden cold-induced stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen, cyanotic complexion, cold sweat from muscles, impending Huoluan (cholera-like vomiting and diarrhea), and a deep, fine pulse. It also treats clear watery stools resulting from cold toxicity in Shanghan (Cold Damage), which turns into cyan-white dysentery (sticky pus and blood), or clear watery stools returning after Bai Li (white dysentery). This formula treats all these conditions and can regulate various cold pains.
Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Secati), Fuling (Poria), Houpo (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis, processed), Qingmuxiang (Radix Aucklandiae), Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi), Jiegeng (Radix Platycodonis), Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba/Rubra), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata) (each 2 liang).
The above ten herbs are cut, boiled in eight sheng of water until reduced to three sheng. Divide into three warm doses, taken three times a day. If unable to tolerate Qingmuxiang, substitute with 1 liang of Xijiao (Cornu Rhinocerotis). Avoid seaweed, Chinese cabbage, pork, vinegar products, and raw green onions.
Furthermore, any Jue Xintong (Revulsion Heartache) that radiates to the back, accompanied by spasms, feeling like something touching the heart from behind, and a stooped posture, is Kidney Heartache (Shen Xintong).
Jue Xintong with abdominal fullness, loss of appetite, indigestion after eating, and severe heart pain is Stomach Heartache (Wei Xintong).
Jue Xintong with pain like needle pricking the heart, extremely severe, is Spleen Heartache (Pi Xintong).
Jue Xintong with a pale/greyish complexion like dead ash, and inability to sigh deeply, is Liver Heartache (Gan Xintong). (*Qianjin Fang* is consistent with this.)
Jue Xintong where pain is intermittent when lying down or sitting still, but worsens with movement, with unchanged complexion, is Lung Heartache (Fei Xintong).
Zhen Xintong (True Heartache) presents with cold limbs extending to the joints, extreme heart pain, death if onset is in the morning and recovery in the evening, or death if onset is in the evening and recovery in the morning.
Pain in the heart and abdomen, presenting as migratory masses moving up and down, with intervals of pain relief, abdominal heat, and excessive salivation, indicates biting by roundworms. (From *Jia Yi Jing*, Volume 1)
*Qianjin Fang* treats pain in the heart and abdomen, presenting as migratory masses moving up and down, with intervals of pain relief, excessive heat, and salivation, indicating biting by roundworms. Wenzhong Danggui Tang is suitable. After taking two or three doses, if ineffective or symptoms change, switch to Zengsun Tang. Wenzhong Danggui Tang is in *Duanju Fang* previously; here is the Zengsun Tang formula.
Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba/Rubra) (6 liang), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae) (4 liang), Houpo (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis) (4 liang), Jiegeng (Radix Platycodonis) (4 liang), Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri) (4 liang), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) (3 liang), Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae) (3 liang).
The above seven herbs are cut, boiled in eight sheng of water until reduced to two and a half sheng. Divide into three doses. Avoid pork. (From Volume 13)
Zhang Wenzhong treats roundworm heartache. Heshi San Formula.
Heshi (Fructus Carpesii) 2 fen, ground to powder. Mix with one cup of warm vinegar and take. The worms should be expelled. (*Beiji Fang*, *Qianjin Fang* are consistent with this.)
Another Ganqi Wan Formula:
Ganqi (Resina Taxodi) is roasted, crushed, and mixed with honey to form pills. Take 15 pills, twice daily. (*Beiji Fang* is consistent with this.)
Another formula:
Take wood ear mushrooms growing on locust trees, burn them to ash, and grind into powder the size of a jujube seed. Take with water at the onset of pain. If it does not stop, drink one sheng of hot water, and the roundworms will be expelled immediately. *Bixiao Fang* states to take with wine. (*Beiji Fang* is consistent with this.)
Another formula:
At the onset of pain, take one spoonful of salt, place it in the mouth, and swallow with water. The condition stabilizes immediately, and the worms are expelled. (*Beiji Fang* is consistent with this, from Volume 1)
*Nianyuan Fang* treats roundworm-induced aversion to vomiting water and heartache. Heshi Wan Formula.
Heshi (Fructus Carpesii) 3 liang, crushed and sifted, mixed with honey to form pills. Take 20 pills with honey-water on an empty stomach in the morning, once daily. (*Gujin Luyian* uses 10 liang. It records Wei Yun suffering from heartache for ten years without cure; taking this formula cured him.)
Another Heshi Wan Formula for treating roundworm heartache:
Heshi (Fructus Carpesii) (6 liang), Wuzhuyu (Fructus Evodiae) (5 liang), Jupi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) (4 liang), Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi) (3 liang), Binglang (Arecae Semen) (4 liang).
The above five herbs are crushed, sifted, and mixed with honey to form pills the size of loquat seeds. Take 20 pills with honey-sweetened water, twice daily. Increase to 30 pills if necessary. Stop when worms are expelled. Avoid raw green onions. (From Volume 15)
*Jiuji Fang* treats unbearable heartache suspected to be caused by roundworms. Hufen Wan Formula.
Sheng Zhen Huma (Sesamum indicum, raw) (1 he), Hufen (Cerussa/Lead Carbonate, roasted, crushed) (0.5 he).
The above two ingredients: First, eat one slice of dried pork on an empty stomach, swallowing only the juice, not the meat. Then, mix Hufen and Huma to form pills, binding them with a small amount of clear wine. Take all at once. For children over ten years old, adjust the dosage accordingly. Avoid raw/cold foods, pork, fish, chicken, garlic, vinegar, and slippery/greasy foods for seven days. If it is roundworms, the symptom is vomiting water. (From Volume 8)
*Bixiao Fang* treats [missing character] heartache formula (Shi Ruoshi says: [missing character] refers to small insects in wells; the pain feels as if bitten by a small insect).
Take lightly grilled Li Yu (Catfish), give one or two pieces to the patient to eat. It cures permanently; eating until full is better.
Another formula:
Bear gallbladder bile (Xiong Dan), the size of a soybean, taken with water. Highly effective.
Another Zhuyu Wan Formula:
Wuzhuyu (Fructus Evodiae) (1 sheng), Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi) (2 liang), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) (2 liang).
The above three herbs are crushed, sifted, and mixed with honey to form pills the size of loquat seeds. Take 30 pills with wine, twice daily. Gradually increase to 40 pills until therapeutic effect is achieved. Avoid raw green onions.
Another Dingxiang San Formula:
Dingxiang (Flos Caryophylli) (7 pieces), Toufa Hui (Ash of human hair, approx. size of a jujube seed).
The above two ingredients are ground to powder and taken with wine.
Another Heshi Binglang Tang Formula:
Heshi (Fructus Carpesii) (2 liang, 1 liang for children), Binglang (Arecae Semen) (14 pieces).
The above two ingredients are boiled in six sheng of pork broth until reduced to three sheng. Remove dregs, add Heshi powder. Fast the night before, and take on an empty stomach the next morning in one dose. Soon, the disease moves downward and water is vomited. It cures permanently and is miraculous. Avoid raw/cold foods and vinegar for seven days. (All from Volume 5)
