Ji Yan Fang discusses the five types of Lin syndrome (dysuria with frequency and urgency), namely Shi Lin (Stone Lin), Qi Lin (Qi Lin), Gao Lin (Gelatinous Lin), Lao Lin (Fatigue Lin), and Re Lin (Heat Lin). The disease of Shi Lin is characterized by pain in the urethra, inability to urinate suddenly, intermittent spontaneous discharge, pain radiating to the lower abdomen, and a sensation of fullness and urgency in the bladder. The disease of Qi Lin is characterized by difficulty in urination and frequent post-void dribbling. The disease of Gao Lin is characterized by urine flowing out like gelatinous white fluid, accompanied by a sensation of fullness and urgency in the lower abdomen and bladder. The disease of Lao Lin occurs upon fatigue, with pain radiating to the Qichong point (ST30) and difficult urination. The disease of Re Lin occurs upon fever, with urine resembling bean dregs after onset; symptoms come and go at specific intervals. Since the five types of Lin differ from each other and their treatment formulas are varied, they are not recorded here. (All extracted from Volume 5)
Fan Wang's formula for treating the five types of Lin.
Machong (Blatta orientalis / Blatta germanica? Note: Text says "Chong" but annotation says "Meng Chong" or "Blatta", WHO standard often uses *Blattae Pergamenum* or similar depending on context, here interpreted as insect part) (2.5 fen, stir-fried; alternatively Meng Chong [Asio otus? No, Meng Chong usually refers to Blatta or similar insect]), Banmao (Mylabris phalerata / Mylabris cichorii) (1.5 fen, remove wings and feet, stir-fried), Dicha (Euphorbia kansui root? Note: Di Dan usually refers to Euphorbia kansui or similar toxic root) (1.5 fen, remove feet, stir-fried), Zhuling (Polyporus umbellatus) (4.5 fen).
Crush and sieve the above four ingredients into a powder. Take 2.5 fen-bi per dose, administered three times daily and twice at night. If there is only heat in the lower abdomen, remove Zhuling. After two days of taking the medicine, collect urine in a vessel; foreign matter should be discharged. For Rou Lin (Flesh Lin), fragmented flesh is discharged; for Xue Lin (Blood Lin), matter resembling short strings is discharged; if it resembles pus-like flesh; for Qi Lin, matter resembling the scum on soup is discharged; for Shi Lin, stones or sand are discharged. Severe cases will heal within ten days. Avoid consuming soup, pork, raw fish, green onions, salt, and vinegar. Taking it with wheat juice is beneficial.
Another miraculous and effective formula for treating the five types of Lin, Yanming San Powder.
Huashi (Talcum), Shi (Calcined mineral stone, heated until half-white), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), Lufengfang (Apiis Cera / Honeycomb, roasted, using the bee larvae inside), Beizi (Concha Meretricis / Concha Arcae, crushed and soaked in Ku Jiu [bitter wine/vinegar] for two to three nights, use the fine ones], Baiziren (Platycladi Semen), Yuchi (Fish teeth/dental remains, crushed until soft), Jishibai (Chicken droppings/white part), Kuhua zhong rang (Pith of bitter gourd/bottle gourd, stir-fried with seeds), Te Niu yintou mao (Hair from the prepuce of a male ox, burnt), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas, stir-fried until juice is dry, each 1 fen), Baiji li huangpi (Inner yellow skin of white chicken crop/stomach lining, stir-fried), Furen yinshang mao (Hair from the vulva of a woman, 2 fen, burnt; this ingredient is absent in another version).
Crush and sieve the above fourteen ingredients into a powder. Take 0.5 qian-bi per dose, increasing up to 1 qian-bi. Administer three times daily and once at night, taken down with Kui Zi Yin (Abutilon seed decoction). It will heal in three days; severe cases will heal within six to seven days. Collect urine in a vessel; stones and other substances should be visible. (All extracted from Volume 15)
