[Pathogenesis] The manifestations of Li Jie Feng (Joint-Traveling Wind) include: shortness of breath, spontaneous sweating, severe joint pain that is unbearable, and inability to flex or extend the joints. This condition is caused by wind-pathogen invasion while pores are open after drinking alcohol and sweating; it can also result from wind-pathogen invasion due to deficiency of Qi and Blood. The wind-pathogen traverses the joints and battles with Qi and Blood, causing pain; deficiency of Qi and Blood leads to sweating; cold-wind pathogen binds to the sinews, resulting in stiffness and inability to move. This is called Li Jie Feng. (From Volume 2)
[Formula 1] Shen Shi Da Feng Yin Tang (Deep Great Master's Great Wind Guiding Decoction). Treats extreme debility in men and women caused by Li Jie Feng, where hands and feet become deformed or rigid, or manifest as manic running, inappropriate laughing or crying, and disordered speech. It is a comprehensive formula for such conditions.
Fuling (Poria), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis), Baiqian (Cynanchum Stauntonii Rhizome), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Root, each 2 liang), Doudou (Soybean, 1 sheng), Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), Duhuo (Angelica Pubescens), each 3 liang; Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix, heart removed); Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Lateralis Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), each 1 liang; Dazao (Jujube Fruit, 30 pieces).
Chop the above thirteen ingredients. First, boil the soybeans and jujubes in 15 sheng of water until reduced to 10 sheng. Strain out the dregs. Add the remaining herbs and decoct until 3 sheng remains. Divide into five doses. Avoid consuming Hai Zao (Sargassum), Song Cai (Chinese Cabbage), pork, vinegar products, garlic, wheat products, and raw vegetables. (From Volume 9)
[Discussion] The Qian Jin Fang states: If Li Jie Feng lingers in the body without treatment for a long time, it causes joint subluxation and deformity, evolving into epilepsy. This must be known. Since ancient times, regardless of status, many have suffered from this. It is a severe toxicity of wind. Although decoctions exist for treatment, they are not as effective as Song Gao (Pine Resin) and Song Jie Jiu (Pine Node Wine). If poor families cannot immediately procure these, taking other decoctions is still better than no treatment. Moxibustion of 37-70 moxa cones on the painful area is beneficial. Additionally, Fang Ji Tang treats wind-induced Li Jie Feng with limb pain as if beaten, which is unbearable.
Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix), Fuling (Poria), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), each 4 fen; Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 2 liang); Wutou (Aconiti Radix, 7 pieces, prepared); Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Root, 3 liang).
Chop the above eight ingredients. Mix with 1 sheng of Ku Jiu (vinegar) and 10 sheng of water. Decoct until 3.5 sheng remains. Take 8 ge per dose, three times daily and once at night. After ingestion, one should feel warmth, and the bi-syndrome should suddenly resolve.
[Formula 2] Dazao Tang (Jujube Decoction). Treats Li Jie Feng pain.
Dazao (Jujube Fruit, 15 pieces, broken), Huangqi (Astragali Radix, 4 liang), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Lateralis Radix, 1 piece, prepared), Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger, 1 liang), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, 5 liang, nodes removed), Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Root, 1 chi length).
Chop the above six ingredients. Boil in 7 sheng of water until 3 sheng remains. Take 1 sheng per dose, three times daily. Avoid pork, cold water, Hai Zao (Sargassum), and Song Cai (Chinese Cabbage). (Same as Gujin Lu Yan)
[Formula 3] Another formula for treating various winds of Li Jie Feng, with unbearable soreness and pain in all joints.
Songzhi (Pine Resin, 30 jin, refined fifty times; if not possible, twenty times is acceptable).
Place this single ingredient in 3 sheng of refined Su (clarified butter/ghee). Warm and melt 3 sheng of Songzhi, stirring thoroughly until well blended. In the morning on an empty stomach, take a dose equivalent to a "Fang Cun Bi" (square inch spoonful) with wine. Three times daily. Frequent consumption of noodle congee is recommended. Avoid fishy/meaty foods, raw/cold foods, sour foods, and fruits. Recovery occurs within 100 days.
[Formula 4] Song Jie Jiu (Pine Node Wine). Mainly treats Li Jie Feng with limb pain resembling joint dislocation. (Note: "Tou" refers to re-fermenting wine).
Songjie (Pine Nodes, 40 jin, finely chopped, boiled in 4 shi of water to yield 1 shi liquid); Zhu Jiao Ye (Zanthoxyli Folium, 40 jin, finely chopped, boiled in 4 shi of water to yield 1 shi liquid).
Clarify the two liquids. Mix and soak 5 dou of dry Qu (yeast starter) until fermentation begins. Brew using 4.5 shi of glutinous rice. Follow home-brewing methods. Keep temperature moderate, neither too cold nor too hot.
Add the following ten herbs at the first stage:
Baiziren (Platycladi Semen, 5 liang), Cishi (Hematitum, 12 liang, powdered), Duhuo (Angelica Pubescens, 15 liang), Tianxiong (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix Preparata, 5 liang, prepared), Yinyu (Berberidis Aristatae Caulis, 4 liang, processed), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root, 10 liang), Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix, 6 liang), Xiongqiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 5 liang), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 4 liang), Bixie (Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma, 5 liang).
Finely chop the above ten ingredients. Steam them with rice. Pour into a fermentation vessel. Seal for 40 days. Press to extract the clear liquor. Drink according to tolerance, avoiding intoxication and vomiting. Avoid pork and cold water.
[Formula 5] Another prescription.
Songgao (Pine Resin Ointment, 1 sheng), crushed and soaked in 3 sheng of wine for seven days. Take 1 ge per dose, twice daily. Several doses lead to cure.
[Formula 6] Another prescription.
Songye (Pinus Massoniana Needle, 30 jin), soaked in 2.5 shi of wine for 21 days (three sevens). Take 1 ge per dose, five to six times daily. (Both from Volume 8)
[Formula 7] Yannian Formula for Treating Li Jie Feng with Swelling of Limbs, Head, and Face.
Huangqi (Astragali Radix, 12 fen), Duhuo (Angelica Pubescens, 8 fen), Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens, 3 sheng, cut and dried), Douchi (Sojae Semen Praeparatum, 1 sheng, roasted), Niuzi (Arctii Fructus, 3 sheng, dried).
Grind the above five herbs into powder. Take a "Fang Cun Bi" dose, washed down with juice. Twice daily. Increase to two or three spoons if necessary. Avoid Wu Yi (Chrysanthemi Indici Flos), garlic, wheat products, and pork. (One version excludes Niuzi).
[Formula 8] Another formula for Li Jie Feng flowing into the waist and legs.
Duhuo (Angelica Pubescens, 6 liang), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix, 4 liang), Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, shaved), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, each 3 liang), Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens, 3 sheng, cut and dried), Chi (Fermented Soybean, 3 he, roasted), Niuzugen (Arctii Radix, 3 sheng, cut and dried).
Grind the above seven herbs into powder. Take a "Fang Cun Bi" dose, washed down with juice. Twice daily. Increase to two or three spoons if necessary. Avoid Wu Yi (Chrysanthemi Indici Flos), garlic, and wheat products. (Both from Volume 10)
[Formula 9] Gujin Lu Yan Fangfeng Tang. Mainly treats body and limb joint pain feeling like dislocation, swelling with tight skin upon pressure (or sinking), dizziness, shortness of breath, and internal heat with restlessness and nausea.
Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), each 4 liang; Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), each 5 liang; Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Root), each 3 liang; Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Lateralis Radix, 2 pieces, prepared).
Chop the above eight ingredients. Boil in 10 sheng of water until 3 sheng remains. Divide into three doses. Avoid raw green onions, pork, Hai Zao (Sargassum), Song Cai (Chinese Cabbage), peaches, plums, and sparrow meat. (From Volume 4; Qian Jin Fang has Banxia, Xingren, Xiongqiong making ten ingredients, without Fuzi).
