*Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* states: Latent heat accumulating in the stomach causes chest fullness; chest fullness leads to rebellious Qi, and rebellious Qi results in hiccups (yue); if severe purgation has occurred, leading to deficiency and cold of the Stomach Qi, it also causes hiccups. (From Volume 9)
*Zhouhou Beiji Fang* treats persistent vomiting. Jupi Gancao Tang (Tangerine Peel and Licorice Decoction).
Gancao (1 liang, roasted) Jupi (3 liang) Shengma (0.5 liang) Shengjiang (3 liang)
The above four herbs are sliced, boiled in 3 sheng of water until reduced to 1 sheng, and taken all at once. Administer three to four times daily; vomiting should cease. Avoid Hai Zao (Sargassum) and Song Cai (Chinese Cabbage). (Wen Zhong's record is identical. From Volume 2)
Wen Zhong's *Jin Xiao Fang* treats vomiting and hiccups. Maimendong Yinzi (Ophiopogon Drink).
Maimendong (heart removed) Lugen (Reed Rhizome) Renshen (Ginseng) (each 2 liang)
The above three herbs are sliced, boiled in 6 sheng of water until reduced to 2.7 sheng, the dregs are filtered out, and the liquid is divided into five warm doses, taken slowly. It is effective with regular use.
Another prescription:
Drink 2-3 he of fresh ginger juice; it is highly effective.
Another prescription:
Boil Pipaye (Loquat Leaf) after removing the hairs for drinking. It is also good when made into porridge. (From Volume 1)
Another prescription:

The above three ingredients are processed with 1 sheng of water: first boil Xiangchi for one boiling, filter out the dregs, then add Xiebai and rice, and cook into a thin porridge. Consuming two bowls is beneficial.
Another prescription for severe hiccups following an epidemic disease, which also addresses Shanghan (Cold Damage): Xiaobanxia Tang (Minor Pinellia Decoction).
Banxia (Pinellia Tuber, 5 liang, washed to remove acridity) Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger, 8 liang, sliced thinly, not wet or foul-smelling; well water-soaked is preferred)
The above two herbs are boiled separately in 3 sheng of water each, yielding 1.5 sheng from each. Filter out the dregs, combine the two liquids, and boil together until reduced to 2 sheng. Divide into three doses. The interval between doses should be equivalent to the time it takes a person to walk ten li. Food intake should be encouraged; the hiccups will likely cease shortly. Recently, two high officials and Ren Li received this formula near death. Ming Fengyu Lai Tuan possessed this secret formula but only stopped decocting the medicine for delivery. Lai Tuan was neighbors with Fang Langzhong and later obtained it through convenient means. It is highly effective. Avoid Lamb meat and Xingtang (Malt Sugar). (Identical to *Shanghan Lun*, both from Volume 1)
