Xu Renze stated: The recurrence of this disease is not only caused by excessive labor, but also may result from slightly overeating, speaking excessively, lack of moderation in hearing and seeing, or irregular movement and daily routine. All these factors can lead to such a recurrence. If the recurrence is severe, it may even be incurable and more critical than the initial onset; one must not consider it trivial because it is a relapse. The symptoms of "Lao Fu" (recurrence due to overexertion) are exactly like those at the beginning of Shanghan (Cold Damage). In such cases, it is appropriate to use Congbai Qiwei Yin (Scallion White Seven-Ingredient Decoction), covering the patient gradually after ingestion to induce sweating.
Scallion White with Roots (Cut, 1 Sheng) Gan Ge (Puerariae Radix, Cut, 6 He) Xin Chi (Fresh Fermented Soybean Paste, 1 He, wrapped in silk) Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger Root, Cut, 2 He) Sheng Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, Heart Removed, 6 He) Gan Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix, 6 He) Lao Shui (Labor Water, 8 Sheng; this water is stirred vigorously with a ladle one thousand times)
Decoct the above herbs in Labor Water until the volume reduces by two-thirds. Strain the dregs. Divide into three warm doses. Walk approximately eight to nine Li between each dose. If one feels the urge to sweat, gradually cover with blankets. This formula also treats Shanghan. Avoid Yuan Yi (Chrysanthemi Fructus).
Furthermore, if taking the aforementioned Congbai Qiwei Yin yields improvement, maintain moderate temperature and rest to ensure stability. If no improvement is felt, it is appropriate to take Weirui Wuwei Yinzi (Weirui Five-Ingredient Drink).
Weirui (Polygonati Rhizoma, 5 Liang, cut) Cong Bai (Scallion White, 1 Sheng, cut) Chi Xin (Fermented Soybean Core, 1 Sheng, wrapped in silk) Jing Mi (Oryza Sativa Indica Concreta, 3 He, ground) Xiong Shu Shi (Male Rat Feces, 7 pieces, powdered)
Decoct the above herbs in 7 Sheng of water. First decoct Chi Xin and others to obtain 4 Sheng of juice. Strain the dregs, add Jing Mi powder, and cook until the rice is soft. Add the powdered rat feces and stir well. Take all at once. Cover with a blanket and lie quietly to induce sweating for recovery.
Additionally, generally after recovery from Tianxing Bing (Epidemic Febrile Disease), one should gradually regain strength to walk. If one exceeds limits and cannot endure exertion, resulting in weak Qi and emaciation, frequent headache, dry lips and mouth, alternating chills and fever occurring at regular intervals, or although able to move, experiencing previous symptoms during episodes, this is named "Tianxing Hou Buliaoliao" (Incomplete Recovery after Epidemic Disease). In such cases, it is appropriate to take Diguxuapi Wuwei Yinzi (Diguxuapi Five-Ingredient Drink) and Baiwei Shiwei Wan (Baiwei Ten-Ingredient Pill), taken slowly.
Diguxuapi (Lycii Cortex, 3 Liang) Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 3 Liang) Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 5 Liang, heart removed) Zhu Li (Bambusa Textilis Sap, 1 Sheng) Bai Mi (White Honey, 3 He)
Cut Zhi Mu and mix with Maidong. Decoct in 6 Sheng of water to obtain 2 Sheng. Strain the dregs, add Zhu Li and honey, and stir well. Divide into three warm doses. The interval between doses should be equivalent to walking ten Li. If feeling weak and unable to finish on an empty stomach, taking it after meals is also good. It also treats Shanghan.
If the aforementioned Diguxuapi Wuwei Yinzi is ineffective, although heat may not completely subside, it is appropriate to use Baiwei Shiwei Wan (Baiwei Ten-Ingredient Pill).
Baiwei (Clerodendri Radix, 3 Liang) Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 4 Liang) Digupi (Lycii Cortex, 3 Liang) Gan Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix, 6 Liang) Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 5 Liang, heart removed) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 4 Liang, roasted) Shuqi (Perillae Folium, 3 Liang) Weirui (Polygonati Rhizoma, 3 Liang) Jupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 2 Liang) Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 3 Liang)
Finely cut the above herbs, pound and sieve them. Pass through a silk sieve to make a powder. Mix with honey to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Initially take 15 pills with water, twice daily. Gradually increase to 30 pills. After three to four days of administration, observe abdominal sensations. If feeling heat, take before meals. If unable to take with plain water on an empty stomach, it is appropriate to use Wumei Siwei Yin (Wumei Four-Ingredient Drink) to administer the pills. Avoid Songcai (Chinese Cabbage), Haizao (Sargassum), Yuan Yi, etc.
Wumei Yin Formula
Wumei (Mume Fructus, 10 pieces) Weirui (Polygonati Rhizoma, 5 Liang) Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger Root, 5 Liang) Bai Mi (White Honey, 1 He)
Cut the above herbs. Decoct the first three ingredients in 6 Sheng of water to obtain 2 Sheng. Strain the dregs, add white honey, and stir well. Use this liquid slowly to administer the aforementioned pills. Adjust quantity and temperature according to preference. Even if not taking pills, drink it whenever feeling dry mouth and thirst. (Same as Wu Sheng's record)
