Alcohol Cessation Formulas from *Qianjin Fang*.
Pour seven *sheng* (approx. 1.5 liters) of wine into a bottle, add half a *liang* (approx. 24 grams) of calcined cinnabar (*Zhusha*, 朱砂) into the wine, tightly seal the bottle, and place it in a pigsty. Allow the pig to move its snout around it. After seven days, take out the contents and drink them all; this will permanently cure alcohol dependence.
Another formula: Mix equal parts of ash from rat heads collected in the twelfth lunar month and willow catkins (*Liuhua*, 柳花). Take one cup with wine at dusk.
Another formula: On the first day of the first lunar month, pour five *sheng* of wine over the top of a mortar, strike it once, and drink the resulting liquid.
Another formula: Take seven pieces of earwax found in old felt, burn them to ash. At dusk, warm one cup of wine, recite a spell saying it is for a madman to drink, do not let the patient know, and then they will no longer desire alcohol.
Another formula: Drink one *sheng* of milk from a white sow; thereafter, never drink alcohol again.
Another formula: Scrape horse sweat, mix it with wine, and have the patient drink it; they will not drink alcohol for life.
Another formula: Burn bones from tiger feces to powder, mix with wine, and have the patient drink it.
Another formula: Take ash from cormorant droppings, administer with water using a measure of one *cunbi* (approx. 3-5 grams); this will permanently cure alcohol dependence.
Another formula: Burn the string from an old spinning wheel to ash, mix with wine, and have the patient drink it.
Another formula: Burn the skin garment of a donkey foal to ash, administer with wine.
Another formula: Dry and powder naturally dead grubs (*Qicao*, 蛴螬), mix with wine, and have the patient drink it. Upon hearing the word "wine" for the rest of their life, they will vomit. This is highly effective.
Another formula: Take seven pieces of meat from the vomit of a habitual drinker, dry them in the shade, burn to ash, and ingest.
Another formula: Soak a sweat-soaked shoe insole in wine overnight. In the morning, on an empty stomach, have the patient drink it; they will vomit and lose the desire to see or drink alcohol.
Another formula: Drink milk from a white dog, administered with wine.
Another formula: Consume horse brain from the twelfth lunar month, administered with wine.
Formulas for Overdose and Poisoning Causing Severe Restlessness and Near-Death States.
Scrape a small amount of soil from the eastern wall, mix with one or two *sheng* of water, and drink; this is beneficial.
Another formula: Mix *Hufen* (Lead Carbonate, 胡粉) with water and drink slowly.
Another formula: Take five *sheng* of the settled juice from green glutinous rice (*Qingjingmi*, 青粳米) and drink it.
Another formula: Crush lotus root (*Ou*, 藕) to extract juice, drink one or two *sheng*. Use the root in winter and the stems/leaves in summer.
Another formula: Dig a pit under the eaves, two *chi* (approx. 0.6 meters) square and three *chi* deep. Pour seven *sheng* of water into the pit, stir vigorously to create foam, collect one *sheng* of the foam, and drink. If symptoms persist, prepare another batch.
Another formula: Crush indigo plant (*Lanqing*, 蓝青), squeeze out several *sheng* of juice, and drink. If indigo is unavailable, wash blue-dyed cloth and drink the rinse water.
Another formula: Calcine rhinoceros horn (*Xijiao*, 犀角), administer with water using a measure of one *cunbi*.
Emergency Formulas for Abdominal Distress and Restlessness Due to Improper Medication Dosage.
Drink fresh kudzu root (*Gegen*, 葛根) juice; it is beneficial. Alternatively, decoct dried kudzu root and drink the soup. (Same as *Zhouhou Beiji Fang*).
Another formula: Swallow three egg yolks (*Jizi Huang*, 鸡子黄); it is beneficial. Alternatively, drink egg whites (*Jizi Qing*, 鸡子清), or consume lard (*Zhigao*, 猪膏); both are beneficial.
Another formula: For overdoses of various mineral drugs (*Shiyao*, 石药), mix white duck feces (*Yashi*, 鸭矢) with water and ingest; recovery follows. (Same as *Zhouhou Beiji Fang*).
Another formula: Rhubarb (*Dahuang*, 大黄) 3 *liang*, Mirabilite (*Mangxiao*, 芒硝) 2 *liang*. Decoct in five *sheng* of water until reduced to three *sheng*. Divide into three doses. Recovery occurs upon bowel movement. (Note: *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* uses five *sheng* of Rehmannia juice instead of water).
