The above twelve herbs are chopped, boiled in five sheng of lard from the twelfth lunar month over low heat, performing the "three ups and three downs" technique repeatedly. Apply the paste to the affected area three or four times daily; do not expose to direct fire. (Same as recorded in Volume 5 of *Gujin Luyan*).
*Zhouhou Beiji Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold for Emergencies) for treating various carbuncles, back carbuncles, and breast abscesses.
Charify rice flour until black, mix with egg white, apply onto silk gauze, and patch over the carbuncle. Make a small hole in the gauze to allow toxic vapors to dissipate. Replace when dry. This medicine is miraculous. (Same as *Wenzhong Beijifang*).
Another prescription:
Grind soot from the bottom of a cauldron into powder, mix with egg yolk, and apply. Adding a little fermented soybean (Douchi) is better. Using garlic and a little salt in May is excellent. (Same as *Wenzhong Beijifang*; another version lacks this method).
Another prescription:
Take one sheng of cornel fruit (Zhuyu), crush it, mix with vinegar, and apply to the carbuncle. Replace when dry.
*Shanfan Fang* for treating carbuncles and back carbuncles, Jiuwu Dahuang Bo Tie (Nine-Ingredient Large Yellow Thin Plaster).
