[Pathogenesis] The so-called "Flying Corpse" (Fei Shi) disease arises without gradual onset, appearing suddenly. Its arrival is as swift as flying or running, hence the name "Flying Corpse." Its manifestations include stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen, panting and rapid breathing, chest and abdominal distension, and rebellious Qi rushing upward to the chest and heart region. (From Volume 23)

*Ji Yan Fang* (Collected Proven Prescriptions) prescribes the Geng Ti San (Melon Pedicle Powder) for treating Flying Corpse:
Geng Ti (Cucumeris Fructus), Chi Xiao Dou (Adzuki Bean) (each 1 fen), Xiong Huang (Realgar) (2 fen, finely ground).
The above three ingredients are pounded into a fine powder and sifted. Each dose is 5 fen bi (a small measuring spoon), gradually increased to half a qian bi. Administer with fermented milk curd. (*Guang Ji Fang* treats sudden onset of nausea, strangling abdominal pain, rapid breathing, distension, and impending death; *Guang Ji Fang* also from Volume 7)

*Bei Ji Fang* (Emergency Essentials) by Zhang Zhongjing prescribes the Zou Ma Tang (Running Horse Decoction) for treating Flying Corpse:
Ba Dou (Crotonis Fructus) (2 seeds, remove heart and skin), Xing Ren (Pruni Armeniaci Semen Amarum) (2 seeds, remove tips and skins).
The above two ingredients are wrapped in silk, pounded until extremely fine, and poured into 2 he of hot water. Squeeze out the white juice with fingers and drink immediately. Bowel movement should occur after about one meal's time. Adjust dosage for elderly and children according to condition. This formula is also generally used to treat Gui Ji disease (Ghost Strike). Avoid wild boar meat and Asparagus fern shoots. (This has already been seen in the treatment of Flying Corpse in the section on acute hernia, so it is not deleted; Wen Zhong's version also from Volume 1)

*Gu Jin Lu Yan Fang* (Ancient and Modern Verified Records) prescribes Fu Zhuo San (Attaching Powder) for treating Flying Corpse residing in the skin, also known as E Mai (Evil Pulse) or Zei Feng (Thief Wind). Upon onset, there is severe headache at non-fixed locations; acupuncture points shift during treatment. Attacks last one to half a day before slightly alleviating, only to recur shortly thereafter. These are all formulas for treating this condition.
Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Tian Xiong (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix Praeparata), Mang Cao (Dichroae Radix) (each 1 fen), Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (4 fen, processed), Xiong Huang (Realgar) (2 fen, finely ground), Wu Tou (Aconiti Radix) (4 fen, processed), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Zhen Zhu (Margarita) (2 fen, finely ground).
The above nine ingredients are pounded and sifted. Take 5 fen bi per dose; if ineffective, gradually increase. Administer with good wine. Avoid pork, cold water, raw scallions, and raw vegetables. (From Volume 6)

[Pathogenesis] The so-called "Lurking Corpse" (Dun Shi) refers to pathogenic factors lingering and hiding between the muscles and blood vessels. If suddenly provoked, they will flare up, causing heart and abdominal distension, stabbing pain, panting and rapid breathing, pain attacking both flanks, and rebellious Qi rushing upward to the chest and heart. After recovery, relapses often occur, with pathogens remaining latent and unresolved, hence the name "Lurking Corpse." (From Volume 23)

*Guang Ji Fang* prescribes a formula for initial Dun Shi and Wu Shi (Five Corpses) that have persisted for a year without cure, presenting with shortness of breath in the heart and abdomen:
Guan Gu (Egrettae Os), Ling Yang Bi (Saiga Tatarica Nasi Cornu), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (1 liang), She Xiang (Moschus) (2 fen, finely ground), Xi Yi (Tegentae Lacerta), Ban Mao (Mylabris), Ji Shi Bai (Galli Stercus Album) (3 liang, processed), Ba Dou (Crotonis Fructus) (5 seeds, remove heart and skin, process until black), Qing (Pulverized Mylabris? Note: Text says 'Qing', likely referring to a specific preparation or typo for another insect drug like Qing Hong, but strictly translating as 'Qing'), Li Lu (Veratri Nigrum Rhizoma) (1 liang, remove rhizome head).
The above ten ingredients are pounded and sifted, mixed with honey to form pills. Take three pills the size of adzuki beans on an empty stomach with liquid, twice daily. Gradually increase to six or seven pills, stopping when effective. Continue until vomiting and diarrhea occur. Avoid raw/cold, greasy foods, pork, garlic, sticky foods, stale/smelly foods, and Asparagus fern shoots. (Another version lacks Ban Mao, Ji Shi Bai, Ba Dou, Qing, Li Lu)

Another formula for initial Dun Shi and Gui Zhu (Ghost Transmission), presenting with unbearable stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen:
Qing Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos), Gui Jian Yu (Sambuci Ramulus), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Zi Su (Perillae Folium), Ju Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (each 8 fen), Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (12 fen), Bing Lang (Arecae Semen), Tao Xiao (Persicae Fructus Immaturus dried?) (14 seeds, remove pits).
The above ten ingredients are chopped, boiled in 9 sheng of water until reduced to 3 sheng, strained to remove dregs. Divide into three doses, taking another dose in the evening. Stop when bowel movements become smooth. Dietary restrictions apply as per medicinal rules. (Another version lacks Ju Pi, Tao Xiao; all from Volume 4)

*Ji Yan Fang* prescribes a formula for Dun Shi presenting with unbearable stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen:
Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Cortex) (1 chi, approx. 1 liang), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (3 fen), Ba Dou (Crotonis Fructus) (2 seeds, remove skin and heart, process).
The above three ingredients are combined, pounded, and sifted. Mix with good vinegar to form a paste. Apply to the painful area; replace when dry. Avoid wild boar meat and Asparagus fern shoots. (*Qian Jin Fang* uses the same, with Gan Jiang being 1 liang; from Volume 1)
