道
[Guangji Formula] Treats bone-steaming (a condition characterized by chronic fever and wasting) affecting lung qi. Every evening, there is aversion to cold and high fever, slight redness of the cheeks, inability to eat, and gradual emaciation.
Raw Rehmannia Root (Sheng Dihuang) (3 liang, finely sliced) Scallion White (Congbai, finely sliced) Fermented Soybean (Xiangchi) Licorice Root (Gancao, roasted, each 3 liang) Boy's Urine (Tongzi Xiaoshui) (2 sheng)
Cut the above five ingredients. Soak Raw Rehmannia Root and others in boy's urine overnight. At dawn, boil twice. Strain to remove dregs, clarify, and obtain 1.2 sheng of liquid. Divide into two warm doses. The interval between doses should be equivalent to walking for seven or eight li. One dose cures; stop taking it. Avoid kelp, Chinese cabbage, coriander, hot noodles, pork, and greasy/sticky foods. (From Volume 4)
[Cui Shi Formula] Treats bone-steaming using a bone-juice pour therapy.
Take rotten, broken bones (5 da sheng; any bone works, but must be washed and scraped clean, avoiding any earthy smell as it prevents cure) Willow Branches (Liu Zhi) (3 da dou, chopped) Thorn Needles (Ji Zhen) (3 da dou) Peach Branches (Tao Zhi) (3 da dou, chopped)
Boil the above four ingredients in clear water (5 da shi) until reduced by half. Filter out the juice. Add clear fermented grain liquid (Qingjiang) (2 da shi) to the pot and boil with the bone juice for three boils. Filter again. Clean the pot, mix the previous and current broths, and reheat for use. Let the patient have their hair loose. Pour this broth over the head to wash. The temperature should be hot enough but not burn the skin. Complete one pouring session. If feeling chest oppression, eat two or three mouthfuls of cold rice. If unable to sit, lie down while washing. During the wash, profuse sweating will occur naturally. For areas with less sweat, continue pouring to ensure even sweating to expel evil qi. After washing, eat a large bowl of hot scallion and fermented soybean porridge, cover warmly to induce sweating. After sweating subsides, massage the body with powder until hands and feet are covered. Severe cases may require no more than two washings. When repeating, gauge based on physical strength. Drinking this broth is also beneficial. (From Volume 7, Wen Zhong's Bone-Steaming Formula)
[Raw Rehmannia Juice Formula] Raw Rehmannia Root (Sheng Dihuang) (1 da sheng), crush and squeeze to extract juice. Crush and squeeze three times until all juice is extracted. Divide into two doses. Reduce dosage if diarrhea occurs. Stop when the body feels light and cool. Avoid coriander.
[Another Formula] Treats bone-steaming with bitter heat, emaciation, sallow complexion, vomiting, rebellious qi, restlessness, shortness of breath, worsening symptoms in the evening, and anorexia. If taking Raw Rehmannia Juice, take this formula immediately after.
Gentian Root (Longdan) Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian) Trichosanthes Root (Gualou) Sophora Root (Kushen) Celosia Seed (Qingxiang) Peony Root (Shaoyao) (each 1 liang) Gardenia Seed (Zhizi Ren) (10 pieces) Mirabilite (Mangxiao) Rhubarb (Dahuang) (each 2 fen)
Crush and sieve the above ten ingredients into a powder. Take 1 qianbi with water, increasing to 1 fangcunbi. Twice daily. Strictly avoid raw/cold food. If raw/cold food is not avoided, do not take this medicine. Avoid pork and cold water. (Qianjin Jingxinlu makes this into pills with the same ingredients.)
[Bamboo Leaf Drink] Treats bone-steaming with dry lips and mouth, thirst, and desire to drink water.
Bamboo Leaves (Zhuye) (1 handful) Ophiopogon Tuber (Mendong, processed) (1 sheng, heart removed) Jujube (Dazao) (20 pieces, split) Licorice Root (Gancao, roasted) (3 liang) Pinellia Tuber (Banxia) (1 sheng, boiled and washed until smooth) Rice (Jingmi) (5 he) Ginger (Shengjiang) (3 liang)
Cut the above seven ingredients. Boil in 5 sheng of water until 2.5 sheng remains. Divide into three warm doses. Avoid mutton, malt sugar, kelp, and Chinese cabbage.
[Another Formula]
Ophiopogon Tuber (Mendong, processed) (1 sheng) Wheat (Xiaomai) (2 sheng) Goji Root Bark (Gouqi Gen) (cut, 3 sheng)
Boil the above three ingredients in 10 sheng of water until 3 sheng remains, cooking wheat until soft. Strain. Divide into three warm doses daily.
[Another Formula]
Large Mume Fruit (Wumei) (20 pieces) Gypsum (Shigao) (6 liang, crushed and wrapped in silk)
Boil the above two ingredients in 7 sheng of water until 4 sheng remains. Strain. Mix with 3 he of honey. Sip slowly.
[Another Formula]
Patients suffering from "Zhai" (consumptive disease) become emaciated with protruding spine. Have a strong man pinch the patient's spine with thumb and index/middle fingers. Wherever pressure causes a bump, mark it with ink. There may be over thirty such spots. Take a green bamboo tube (3 fingers wide, 1.5 cun long), keep one end knotted, sharpen the other end thin like a sword blade. Boil the tube several times. While hot, place it over the marked spot and press firmly. Break the skin at the suction point with a knife. Re-boil the tube and re-suction. Yellowish-white fluid will emerge, followed by pus, sometimes insects. Repeat until all foul matter is expelled. The body will feel light and clear that day.
[Another Formula] Treats bone-steaming, diabetes mellitus (Xiao Ke), middle-heat, thirst-dysentery, heart heat/palpitations, wind-deficiency heat, and infectious consumption (Chuan Shi).
Sophora Root (Kushen) (1 da jin) Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian, de-haired) Anemarrhena Rhizome (Zhimu) Trichosanthes Root (Gualou) Ophiopogon Tuber (Mendong, processed) Oyster Shell (Muli, roasted) (each 5 da liang)
Crush and sieve the above six ingredients. Mix with raw cow's milk to form pills the size of wutong seeds. Dry them. Take 20 pills per dose, gradually increasing to 30. Twice daily. Take after meals with fermented grain water. If eating hot noodles or drinking wine, increase to 50 pills. Avoid pork and cold water. (Same as Jiufang)
[Cangwu Daoist Formula] Treats bone-steaming.
Astragalus Root (Ziwan) Platycodon Root (Jiegeng) Dipsacus Root (Xuduan) Green Bamboo Sap (Qingzhuru) Schisandra Berry (Wuweizi) (each 3 liang, crushed) Mulberry Root Bark (Sangbaipi) (5 liang) Licorice Root (Gancao, roasted) (2 liang) Dried Rehmannia Root (Di Huang) (5 liang, use if heat is prominent) Adzuki Bean (Chixiaodou) (1 sheng)
Cut the above nine ingredients. Boil in 9 sheng of water until 3.5 sheng remains. Divide into three warm doses. Take 5-6 doses; even 10-year cases can be cured. Take one dose every 5 days.
Avoid kelp, Chinese cabbage, pork, and coriander.
[Another Formula] Treats bone-steaming with coughing up pus, severe cases.
Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit (Zaojiao) (1 liang, roasted, skin removed, wrapped in cotton) White Malt Sugar (Bai Xi) (1 liang) Dried Jujube (Gan Zao) (7 pieces, split) Ginger (Shengjiang) (2 fen, cut)
Boil the above four ingredients in 1 da sheng of wine until 0.5 sheng remains. Strain. Eat first, then take 2 he. If no vomiting after walking 3-4 li, take another 2 he. If no vomiting after 2-3 li, take the rest. Induce vomiting to expel pus. (From Volume 1)
[Emergency Notes] Signs of bone-steaming: In men, caused by five labors and seven injuries, post-lung obstruction, post-miasma malaria, or old accumulations/patterns; in women, postpartum deficiency; in children, flash-patterns. These ten signs cause gradual emaciation. Initially, night sweats appear. After night sweats, alternating chills and fever occur. If the face becomes very red during these episodes, the condition is critical (7 deaths, 3 survivals). If vomiting follows, then dysentery, death is certain within a month.
Celosia Seedlings (Qingxiang Miao, harvested June 6th) Anemarrhena Rhizome (Zhimu) Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian, de-haired) Rhubarb (Dahuang) Gardenia Seed (Zhizi Ren) Trichosanthes Root (Gualou) Oldenlandia Herb (Changshan) Polygonatum Rhizome (Weirui) (each 8 fen)
Crush and sieve the above eleven ingredients. Mix with honey to form pills the size of wutong seeds. Take 5 pills with water, gradually increasing to 15. Twice daily. Stop when effective. If diarrhea occurs, avoid pork, hot noodles, scallions, garlic, raw vegetables, kelp, and Chinese cabbage.
[Another Formula] Treats bone-steaming.
Peach Kernel (Maotao Ren) (120 pieces, skin and double kernels removed, tips kept)
Crush the single ingredient into a moldable paste. Take all at once at dawn well water. After taking, drink alcohol to intoxication, then drink water. More is better. Take another dose every other day. No meat for 100 days.
[Another Formula] Treats extreme heat in bone-steaming. (Do not transmit casually)
Burn dry human feces until black externally. Clarify in water. Take 1 small sheng every morning, and 1 small sheng of urine every late afternoon. Stop when cured. Do not collect daily. Dig a pit, burn 2 sheng of feces, soak in 3 sheng of water overnight, reducing usage gradually. Use urine from children, not the patient's own.
[Another Formula]
Realgar (Xionghuang) (1 da liang) mixed with 1 da sheng of urine, ground into powder. Take a piece of yellow stone (approx. 1 chi square), heat it with charcoal fire.
[Another Formula] Treats infectious consumption (Chuan Shi).
Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit (Zaojiao) (1 chi long, roasted lightly, black skin removed, crushed, wrapped in cotton) Black Malt Sugar (Hei Xi) (size of a chicken egg) Mutton (Rou) (size of a fist, cooked normally)
Place the above three ingredients in 1 sheng of clear wine without ash in a copper pot. Boil the cotton-wrapped gleditsia for 3-5 boils. Remove the cotton. Dissolve the black malt sugar. Follow dietary restrictions as before. (From Volume 2)
[Bixiao Formula] Treats bone-steaming using urine.
Take 5 sheng of urine from a 3-year-old boy. Boil down to 1 da sheng. Mix with 3 spoons of honey. Divide into two doses. Interval equivalent to walking 20 li. After taking this, parasites (youyan er) will exit the body. Keep patients away from others by 5-10 steps. Those who smell the patient's urine will be cured. Zhang Dao...
