Mash the seeds of *Ricinus communis* (Bimany Ren, Castor Bean) and apply as a poultice. The swelling will stop immediately. Alternatively, apply juice from Allium fistulosum (Cong, Scallion) externally, four to five times a day. One may also apply a paste made by mixing powder of Rhizoma et Radix Curcumae Longae (Dahuang, Rhubarb) with vinegar. Or apply roots of Phytolaccae Radix (Shanglu, Pokeweed Root), changing it twice a day. Furthermore, at the initial stage, use leaves of Musa basjoo (Bajiao, Japanese Banana). Burn them in an iron pot until they retain their medicinal properties (Cunxing), then mix with Calomelas (Qingfen, Mercurous Chloride) and Sesame Oil (Mayou, Sesame Oil) to make a paste for application. Apply three times a day; it heals without leaving scars. Alternatively, mash Musa basjoo into powder and mix with juice of Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, Fresh Ginger) for topical application. Or mash Lemna minor (Pingcao, Duckweed) for external application. A single bulb of Allium sativum var. unibracteatum (Dutousuan, Single-head Garlic) applied externally can resolve the condition within three to five applications.

Mash the roots of Tricyrtis hirta (Ziyuzan, Hairy Toadlily) and apply as a poultice; the necrotic bone will be expelled naturally.

Grind Dioscorea opposita (Shanyao, Chinese Yam) and mix with sugar water. Apply around the periphery of the lesion to disperse the swelling.

To treat carbuncles where pus fails to drain, mix human milk with flour and apply externally.

At the onset, stir-fry one liang of Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum (Ganjiang, Dried Ginger) until dark purple, grind into powder, and mix with vinegar. Apply around the periphery, leaving the center open (Liutou); it will heal spontaneously. Alternatively, apply powder of Phaseoli Semen Rubrum (Chixiaodou, Red Adzuki Bean, 49 grains). This is universally effective, but the bean is sticky and hard to grind when dry. Adding powder of Radix Boehmeriae Niveae (Zhugen, Ramie Root) prevents stickiness; this method is particularly excellent. (Alternatively, for swellings the size of an egg, burn Sal alba cum Melle (Yan Baiming, Salted White Plum with Honey) until retaining its properties, grind to powder, add a small amount of Calomelas (Qingfen), and mix with Sesame Oil (Xiangyou) to apply around the periphery. Applicable whether ulcerated or not.) Mix equal parts of Arecae Semen (Binglang, Betel Nut) into powder and apply mixed with Egg White (Jizi Qing). Furthermore, for sores that fail to heal and have deep wounds, mash Luffa cylindrica (Sigua, Loofah)... [Text fragment]... Cook and mash Brassica juncea seeds (Wujingzi, Mustard Seed), wrap in cotton cloth, and apply externally without stopping. Alternatively, apply a mixture of wine and flour. Or apply bile from Sus scrofa domestica (Zhudan, Pig Gallbladder); it is effective. Or apply Cyprinus carpio (Jiyu, Crucian Carp)... [Text fragment]... Hair (size of an egg), and fat from Sus scrofa domestica (Zhizhi, Pig Fat, one jin); fry into an ointment and apply.

Mix fat from Sus scrofa domestica (Zhizhi) with leaves of Catalpa ovata (Qiuye, Catalpa Leaf), mash, and apply as a seal. Or mash leaves of Populus tomentosa (Baiyangye, White Poplar Leaf), sift, and apply.

Powderize Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian, Goldthread Rhizome) and Ostreae Concha (Muli, Oyster Shell), each two fen. First wash the area with saline solution, then apply the powder.

After washing and wiping with saline solution, apply ash powder from Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus Spina (Zaojiao, Chinese Tamarind Thorn) burned to ash; it is effective. Also, apply cerumen from Bos taurus (Niuer Zhonggou, Cow Ear Wax); it is effective.

Burn ashes of Vitis amurensis vines (Gemian, Grapevine) and apply to the site for spontaneous resolution. Or apply cow dung; it is good. Or apply roots and leaves of Arctii Fructus (Shunianju/Niuniuzi, Burdock). Or mix Passer domesticus feces (Quefen, Sparrow Droppings) with water and apply. Or mix powder of Zanthoxylum bungeanum (Shengjiao, Sichuan Pepper) and soil from under the cooking vessel (Fuxiatu) in equal parts, blend with vinegar, and apply. (Another formula includes powder of Medicated Leaven, Qumo). For already ruptured ulcers, mash Leonurus japonicus (Yimucao, Motherwort) and apply externally.
