Live razor clam shells: Use the shells of live razor clams, mix with pig bile, and apply topically.

Hanshi Tang (i.e., maltose syrup): Apply topically; it is effective. If dry, burn to ash, mix with ash of Dianthus superbus (Qumai), and apply with sesame oil; effective.

Snails and chrysanthemum leaves: Mash together and apply topically. (If chrysanthemum leaves are unavailable, use wild ramie tops.) Another method: Take the area under the gills near the abdomen of a Tenualosa reevesii (Shi fish); the two long scales between the two fin-like structures are best, but difficult to obtain. Nowadays, large scales from its back are used instead; paste on the lesion for resolution.

Water Ding (Water Carbuncle): Yellowish color, numbness without pain. Dark Ding (Dark Carbuncle): Protruding and red, causing delirium and mania. First puncture the surrounding area, then use Ginkgo biloba seeds (Yinxing), remove shells, mash aged ones, and apply as a compress.

(Also known as Tian She Tou [Heavenly Snake Head], occurring on fingers or toes.) The lower half of Impatiens balsamina (Fengxianhua) flowers (use with roots, do not wash with water), mix and apply topically; very effective. Another method: Take one egg, pierce a small hole, insert [medicinal substance]. Another method: Make a hole in an egg, insert finger inside. Another method: Realgar (Xionghuang) and Calcined Alum (Kufan) in equal parts, grind into powder, mix with sesame [oil]; if unbroken, it dissipates; if broken, it relieves pain and heals immediately.

Apple snail (Tianluo) with Borneol (Bingpian): Dissolve in water and drop onto the lesion.

Aged moss vegetable (Taicai): Grind into powder, apply topically; reduces swelling, closes wounds, and heals. Tested with no failure. Another method: Dried white plum meat (if unavailable, use dark plum), can extract the root of the Ding toxin; marinated lychee meat mixed with a little cinnabar, mashed together, blended with soft chicken droppings, keep the head part for application; effective. (Note: Zouhuang [Spreading Poison] is a critical condition of Ding toxins; internal and external treatment combined is advisable. Quickly take banana leaves or roots, crush for juice to drink, or take other medicines; relying solely on external treatment may not be fully effective.)

Treat all types of carbuncles, back sores, and nameless swellings. For early-stage heat and unbroken lesions, this is effective. Use Chen Xiao Fen (aged glutinous rice flour), the older the better. Stir-fry in a wok; initially like syrup, until dry and yellow when fried longer. Cool, grind into powder, mix with aged rice vinegar to form a paste, boil until thick like lacquer, store in ceramic jars. Apply [implied: the prepared paste], lesions will also fall off naturally.

Akebia quinata root (Bailian), Scutellaria baicalensis (Huangqin), and Aconitum carmichaelii (Wutou) (prepared, equal parts): Mash, sieve into powder, mix with egg white, apply topically; heals immediately. Another method: For already broken lesions, apply this patch. Phellodendron amurense (Huangbai), Sanguisorba officinalis (Diyu), and Angelica dahurica (Baizhi) (two liang each): Mash into powder, mix with egg white, spread on cloth, apply over carbuncle; perforate the cloth at the wound site to allow ventilation. Soybean-infused swollen [part/substance]: Mash and apply. Another method: Pig bile mixed with mustard seed powder applied topically, three times daily. Pig fat can also be used. Another method: Turnip leaves (Manjingye) burned without water contact to seal the area. Another method: For early stages, stir-fry mung bean powder until yellow-black, add Soapberry fruit (Yazao) (one liang), grind together, mix with rice vinegar for application. If skin is broken, mix with oil for application.
