In summer, exposure to heat while traveling on roads may cause sudden fainting, known as Zhongre [Heatstroke]. One must absolutely avoid mistakenly using cold water to spray or pour. Once exposed to cold, it becomes incurable.
Urgently roll rice straw or grass paper into a tube, ignite it, and smoke it towards the mouth and nose; the patient will revive immediately. This is highly effective.
Alternatively, dip cloth in boiling water and apply compresses to the navel (Shenque, CV8) and three cun below it. After waking, the patient must still avoid drinking cold water; doing so will cause death again.
Mash garlic and mix with half a small cup of cold water. Use a tea spoon to instill this mixture into the nostrils for immediate revival.
Whenever walking under the hot sun and feeling unable to support one's head, quickly lie prone on the ground with the mouth and nose close to the soil; this yields immediate results.
For Zhongre presenting with thirst, flushed face, and extreme restlessness: Dig a hole more than one chi deep, take clean yellow earth, and mix it with fresh well water to form a paste. Apply this to the chest and above the navel.
Burn Chenxiang [Aquilaria Wood] and Tanxiang [Sandalwood] until the fragrance fills the room to open the orifices; the patient will wake up.
Apply Suhewan [Styrax Pill] externally, and use Xiangru [Elsholtzia Herb] and Huanglian [Coptis Rhizome] decoction to apply compresses to the chest.
Shuzheng [Summerheat Syndrome] presents with fever, headache, resembling Taiyang disease [Exterior Cold Syndrome], accompanied by irritability, thirst, vomiting, drowsiness, and loss of appetite.
Mix Liuhuang [Sulfur] and Xiaoshi [Saltpeter] (1 liang each), Mingfan [Alum], Xionghuang [Realgar], and Huashi [Talcum] (5 qian each), along with Baifan [Wheat Flour] (4 liang). Mix with well water and apply to the abdomen.
Dry Ebusicao [Centipeda Herb] in the shade, soak it in good distilled liquor overnight, then dry it in the sun. Repeat soaking at night and drying during the day for seven cycles. If pain is on the right side, stuff the herb into the left nostril; if on the left, stuff it into the right nostril. After about an hour, when cold fluid flows from the nose, the illness is cured.
Mash three field snails, add 3 fen of Qingsalt [Green Salt] (or Qingdai [Indigo Naturalis]), and apply as a plaster to 1 cun below the navel. (Alternative text says 1 cun).
(Refer to sections on Heatstroke and Sha Syndrome)
Carefully examine the patient's back. If black spots are present, prick them one by one with a needle until blood comes out; the patient will recover. If delayed by one day, it becomes incurable.
Fill the navel with salt, place moxa on top of the navel, and burn it. Continue burning until the pain stops and the patient regains consciousness. Even if clinically dead, if the heart area remains slightly warm, revival is possible.
Mash garlic into a paste and apply it to the heart region for immediate effect.
Alternatively, stir-fry 2 jin of salt until hot, wrap it in green cloth, and use two packs alternately to iron the abdomen. Recovery occurs once sweat penetrates.
For vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, stir-fry Cangzhu [Atractylodes Rhizome], Huoxiang [Patchouli Herb], Chenpi [Citrus Peel], Banxia [Pinellia Tuber], Qingpi [Bitter Orange Peel], Jiegeng [Platycodon Root], Zhike [Aurantii Fructus], Suye [Perilla Leaf], Nongcao Jie [Rush Pith], Yuancansha [Silkworm Frass] (5 qian each), and Shengjiang [Fresh Ginger], Congbai [Scallion White] (3 qian each) until hot. Wrap in cloth and apply as a compress; this is very effective.
For Huoluan [Cholera-like disorder] with abdominal pain and calf cramps (Zhuanjin): Grind Jiecainzi [Mustard Seed] into fine powder and fill the navel for immediate effect.
Alternatively, apply garlic paste and salt to the navel.
Alternatively, boil green cloth in hot vinegar and apply compresses to the knees, replacing them when they cool.
Alternatively, apply garlic paste mixed with beeswax to the sole of the foot.
Alternatively, blow a bean-sized amount of Zaojiao [Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit] powder into the nose to induce sneezing.
Apply vinegar-mixed paste to both soles of the feet.
If Zhuanjin [Cramp] has led to clinical death but the epigastrium remains warm, apply Zhusha [Cinnabar] (2 qian) and Huangla [Beeswax] (3 liang) to the mouth, nose, and navel, and additionally apply to hands and feet to induce sweating.
If Zhuanjin [Cramp] is accompanied by cold limbs, rub the affected area with distilled liquor for effectiveness.
For men... pull upwards (text fragment); for women, pull the breasts laterally with hands. The patient recovers. (Also treats ordinary cramps).
