[Foot Numbness, Diarrhea, and Pain: Umbilical Ironing Prescription]
Take *Sulfur* (Lao Huang Liao), *Cinnamon Twig* (Shang Rou Gui), *Evodia Fruit* (Wu Zhu Yu), and *Cloves* (Ding Xiang) (each 1 qian), and *Musk* (She Xiang) (3 fen). Grind them together into a fine powder. For each application, mix an appropriate amount of the powder evenly with *Warm-Navel Paste* (Nuan Qi Gao) and apply it to the umbilicus; alternatively, prepare a small plaster and apply it to the umbilicus. Iron the area with hot wheat bran. Care must be taken not to allow the medicine to enter the mouth accidentally. (Another prescription omits *Evodia Fruit* and mixes equal parts of the remaining ingredients into *Warm-Navel Paste* for application on the navel). This prescription also treats *Diaojiao Sha* (a type of severe cholera-like syndrome).
[Scraping Therapy]
Indicated for *Huoluan* (Cholera) caused by deficiency and damage of the Spleen Yuan, characterized by absence of vomiting and diarrhea, abdominal distension like a drum, and phlegm obstruction in the chest and heart.
Prepare a smooth, narrow-mouthed porcelain bowl. Prepare another cup of hot water and add one or two spoons of sesame oil. Dip the rim of the bowl into the oil-water mixture to make it slippery. Hold the bottom of the bowl with your hand and gently scrape downwards along the patient's back. (Avoid scraping in reverse direction). Gradually increase the pressure. When the bowl becomes dry, dip it again in the oil-water mixture and continue scraping. After some time, the patient will feel the sensation of chest distension moving downwards, followed by audible sounds. Soon after, loud noises will be heard from the abdomen, accompanied by profuse watery diarrhea, and the pain will subsequently subside. After sleeping, the whole body may feel itchy, and bumps/rashes will appear all over the body, leading to recovery. Currently, scraping is also performed on the neck and arms, which can also treat diseases. However, the meridians of the five zang organs are all attached to the back. Scraping downwards facilitates the descent of Qi. Therefore, for patients with deep-seated toxins and severe conditions, scraping the back is indispensable. This is a simple and effective prescription for rescuing patients from near-death states due to Sha syndrome, being the most efficacious and stable method. (The author notes that using a copper coin dipped in sesame oil or water for scraping seems simpler).
Another wiping method: Take a handful of salt and rub/wipe eight specific areas: both wrists, both hypochondriac regions, both feet, the epigastrium (heart pit), and the back. Rub until many purple-red spots appear. The body will naturally become gradually relaxed and recover. This method is effective for all types of Sha distension, as well as heatstroke and cholera, even saving those who are critically ill. It is truly a good prescription.
Another prescription: Take seven tender *Plantago Seeds Herb* (Che Qian Cao), soften them by rubbing, and insert them into the nostrils. Insert into the left nostril for males and the right nostril for females. This treats Wu Sha Zhang (which refers to Gan Huoluan or Dry Cholera).
For any Sha distension caused by summer-heat and heat, take half a cup of liquor (Baijiu). Take a clump of hair, dip it in the liquor, and wipe/scrub the chest area until the liquor is consumed.
Apply juice of old ginger into the inner corner of the eye. Apply to the left eye for males and the right eye for females. Recovery occurs upon sweating.
