Ginger juice and white honey are mixed evenly. Apply to the back.
Stimulate the nasal cavity with a paper twist to induce sneezing, which will stop the condition.
Mix pepper powder with cooked rice to make a cake. Apply to the umbilicus. Alternatively, apply hot wood ash wrapped in cloth. Alternatively, apply fried salt. Alternatively, apply glutinous rice wine lees mixed with salt. Alternatively, apply a cake made from Aiye (Mugwort Leaf, Artemisiae Argyi Folium) stir-fried with wine. Alternatively, apply a cake made from pepper and garlic. Alternatively, apply Aiye (Mugwort Leaf, Artemisiae Argyi Folium), Zhaoxintu (Furnace-bottom earth), Mendouhui (Lintel dust), and Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus, Evodia fruit) stir-fried with vinegar. All are effective. (All the above formulas are applied to the umbilicus.) Alternatively, Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen, Plantain seed) and Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex, Cinnamon bark) (equal amounts) are ground into powder and placed in the umbilicus.
Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen, Plantain seed) is pounded to extract juice. Mix with Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Licorice root and rhizome) (powder) and Huashi (Talcum, Talc) (powder, equal amounts) and apply to the umbilicus.
Liuhuang (Sulfur, Sulfur), Kufan (Alumen Exsiccatum, Dried Alum), and Zhusha (Cinnabaris, Cinnabar) (equal amounts) are ground into fine powder. Made into pills and placed in the umbilicus. If diarrhea does not stop, use one jin of Aiye (Mugwort Leaf, Artemisiae Argyi Folium) for the patient to sit on, and ignite it.
Dasuan (Allii Sativi Bulbus, Garlic bulb) is pounded and applied to the soles of the feet, or to the center of the umbilicus. Alternatively, Dasuan (Allii Sativi Bulbus, Garlic bulb) must be mixed with Yinzhu (Cinnabar and mercury sulfide, Vermilion) and pounded until blended. Apply inside the navel. Stops immediately with miraculous effect. Alternatively, Dasuan (Allii Sativi Bulbus, Garlic bulb) (half a bulb), Mudingxiang (Caryophylli Fructus, Clove fruit) (four pieces), and Shexiang (Moschus, Musk) (one fen) are ground together into fine powder. Mixed with saliva to form pills the size of soybeans. Place in the umbilicus. Externally, apply any small plaster to cover it; it stops immediately. (Also treats dysentery.) For infantile watery diarrhea where oral medication cannot be taken: Badou (Crotonis Fructus, Croton seed) (three pieces) and Huangla (Cera Flava, Beeswax) (three qian) are pounded together into a paste and applied to the umbilicus. Bind with a silk handkerchief. Effective within half a day. Alternatively, Xiangbaizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, Angelica dahurica root) and Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, Dried ginger rhizome) (one qian each) are ground together into fine powder. Mixed with honey to form a paste. Apply to the umbilicus. Cover and secure with cloth. Heat with a hot brick or iron. Apply heat over the plaster. Recovery occurs once qi circulation is restored.
Effective for treating watery diarrhea and white dysentery. Contraindicated for pregnant women. Xiangyou (Sesami Semen Oleum, Sesame oil) (one jin, one formula uses Mayou, Sesami Semen Oleum, Sesame oil), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, Fresh ginger rhizome) (sliced, one jin), Huangdan (Minium, Lead oxide, processed) (eight liang) are decocted to make a plaster spread on cloth. Additionally, apply the Hongyao Wan (Red Medicinal Pill) to the umbilicus. Hongye Wan (Red Leaf Pill) formula: Liuhuang (Sulfur, Sulfur) (three qian), Mudingxiang (Caryophylli Fructus, Clove fruit) (one qian), Shexiang (Moschus, Musk) (one fen), plus Dusuan (single-clove garlic, Allii Sativi Bulbus, Garlic bulb) (several bulbs, one formula omits this) pounded into a paste. Add to the previous three ingredients. Grind evenly to form pills the size of Wutongzi (Firmiana simplex seed). Coat with Zhusha (Cinnabaris, Cinnabar).
(For patients with cold limbs, umbilicus, and abdomen)
Decoct Baifei Tang (Hundred-Boil Decoction, i.e., boiling water). Have the patient sit in the deep, hot decoction. The standard is to immerse up to above the knees. For medicines that generate yang, nothing is faster than this. (Note: The freshly boiled Baifei Tang may be too hot to sit in immediately; one can first steam over it and wait until it cools slightly before sitting and immersing.)
