Place Bai Fan (Alumen, 白矾) and Ji Zi (Egg, 鸡蛋) in Cu Zhong (Vinegar, 醋). Apply to the soles of the infant's feet for spontaneous recovery.
For infants aged four or five who can only call out but cannot speak, grind Chi Xiao Dou (Adzuki Bean, 赤小豆) into powder, mix with Jiu (Wine, 酒), and apply under the tongue. After two or three applications, speech will be restored.
Extract the juice from Xia Ma Dan (Toad Gallbladder, 虾蟆胆) and apply it to the tongue for immediate recovery.
This condition is caused by deficiency wind invading the Liver and Kidney. Use Sheng Fu Zi (Raw Aconite Root, 生附子) [peeled and navel removed] and Sheng Nan Xing (Raw Arisaema Rhizome, 生南星) [each 2 qian], grind into powder, mix with Jiang Zhi (Ginger Juice, 姜汁), spread, and apply as a plaster to Tian Zhu Gu (Tianzhu Bone, 天柱骨 - referring to the cervical spine/neck area).
Pound Yu Bai Pi (Ulmus Pumila Bark, 榆白皮) until it becomes like mud, apply as a seal, and change frequently.
Grind Bai Jie Zi (White Mustard Seed, 白芥子) into powder, mix with water, make into a paste, and apply. Continue until the condition stabilizes.
Mix Gui Niao (Turtle Urine, 龟尿) with Shou Wu (Polygonum Multiflorum, 首乌) powder and apply to the back. It will heal spontaneously after a long period.
When white blisters appear on the back, resembling strings of beads, which rupture after one or two days with flowing pus and blood, accompanied by severe itching where one lesion heals while another arises, use Ru Yi Cao (Acalypha Australis, 如意草).
Fen Dou Chi (Fermented Soybean, 淡豆豉), Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger, 生姜) [each 2 qian, chopped], Cong (Scallion, 葱) [5 stalks], and Yan Shi (Salt, 食盐) [1 liang] are stir-fried together until hot, then placed on the umbilicus for moxibustion-like warming; this is effective.
Boil Jiang (Ginger, 姜) into a strong decoction to wash the abdomen. Separately, crush Cong (Scallion, 葱) and Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger, 生姜), stir-fry until hot, form into a cake, and apply to the umbilicus; recovery occurs after a while.
Wash the infant's abdomen with Cong Tang (Scallion Decoction, 葱汤), and still apply crushed fried Cong (Scallion, 葱) to the umbilicus. After a while, urine flows out and pain stops.
Hong Fan Dou (Red Rice Bean, 红饭豆), Fen Dou Chi (Fermented Soybean, 淡豆豉), Nan Xing (Arisaema Rhizome, 南星) [peeled and navel removed], and Bai Lian (Ampelopsis Japonica Root, 白蔹) [each 1 qian] are ground into powder. Use Ba Jiao (Musa Basjoo, 芭蕉) [leaves if available, otherwise roots] to self-apply around the four sides of the umbilicus; recovery follows immediately.
Remove the skin from Xing Ren (Apricot Kernel, 杏仁), grind, and apply.
Burn Ai Ye (Artemisia Argyi Leaf, 艾叶) to ash, fill the umbilicus, and bind with cloth. If the umbilical cord has already fallen off, slice Suan (Garlic, 蒜) thinly, apply to the umbilicus, and moxa-burn it. If the aroma of mugwort is perceived, recovery is immediate.
Ku Fan (Calcined Alumen, 枯矾) and Peng Sha (Borax, 硼砂) [each 2.5 qian], Zhu Sha (Cinnabar, 朱砂) [2 fen], Bing Pian (Borneol, 冰片), and She Xiang (Musk, 麝香) [each 5 li] are ground into powder. Whenever an infant suffers from Qi Feng (Umbilical Wind, 脐风), sprinkle this powder on the umbilicus. Every time the diaper is changed, sprinkle this powder again. Upon finishing one dose, diseases such as Qi Feng will never recur. If fluid continuously oozes from the umbilicus accompanied by redness and swelling, apply Dong Bi Tu Mo (Dust from the East Wall Soil, 东壁土末); alternatively, burn Da Hong Ni (Large Red Cloth, 大红呢) to ash, grind into powder, and apply; or use Zhi Gan Cao Mo (Roasted Licorice Powder, 甘草末) placed in the umbilicus until healed; or use Zhi Huang Bo (Roasted Phellodendron Bark, 黄柏) [1 liang] and Fu Di Mo (Soot from Cauldron Bottom, 釜底墨) [4 fen], grind into powder, and apply to the umbilicus; or warm the powder by cooking and apply to the umbilical sore; this is very good.
