After the initial recovery from Shanghan (Cold Damage),
Ginger, Aconitum carmichaelii lateral root (Caowu),
See the Zisu Ironing Method mentioned previously. Also, shave fresh Ginger to the size of a little finger, two cun long. Apply salt inside and insert into the lower abdomen/genital area; urination will be immediately unblocked. Alternatively, mix Pig Gallbladder bile and irrigate into the anus. For Shanghan with inability to urinate, take one Snail, add a small amount of Borneol into the snail shell; it will instantly turn into water. Drip this into the umbilicus; relief is immediate.
Also, use half a large piece of Gleditsia sinensis fruit (Zaojiao). Insert into the urethral opening.
For Shanghan febrile disease with swelling of hands and feet threatening to detach: Wrap them in raw beef. The swelling subsides and pain stops. Alternatively, boil Sophora flavescens root (Kushen) in wine and soak. Or, put a little salt into River Snails, crush and apply as a poultice.
For residual toxins from Shanghan, with severe swelling and pain in hands and feet threatening amputation: Use five jin of Phellodendron bark (Huangbai) boiled in three sheng of water for soaking.
For Shanghan foot pain (also known as Tuo Jiao Shanghan): Crush a piece of Camphor wood into powder and decoct for soup. Mix one liang of sediment from an old urine bucket (Yuan Nian Niao Tong Sha) into powder, blend with Chen Xiaofen (starch), and apply as a paste.
[Text fragment: "At Da"]
(This condition is occasionally caused by Wind-Cold invasion, with symptoms milder than the previous Shanghan syndrome, hence a separate section on Ganmao [Common Cold] is established. One may also treat according to the previous formulas.)
Orange leaves, old ginger, scallion heads, any quantity. Stir-fry with wine until hot. Wrap in cloth and frequently iron over the affected area. If the illness persists...
Mix Mustard seed powder (Jiezi) with water, fill into the umbilicus. Iron with a hot object through clothing to induce sweating; this is excellent.
Pepper, Clove (seven grains each), grind finely. Mash Scallion white into a paste, mix and apply to both palms. Clasp hands firmly, place between the sides of the thighs. Sweating leads to recovery.
For Wind-cold invasion causing unclear head and eyes: Chuanxiong rhizome (Chuanxiong), Agastache rugosa (Huoxiang), Corydalis yanhusuo (Yanhusuo), Moutan cortex (Danpi) (each two qian), Realgar (Xionghuang), Angelica dahurica (Baizhi), Gleditsia sinensis fruit (Zaojiao) (each four qian).
[Instruction missing/implied application]
Blindstone herb (Euphorbia humifusa, Yibuxicao, also known as Yixingcao) ground into powder, insufflated into the nose. Clearing of nasal discharge and tears brings freshness (in winter, can substitute for Shaya medicine).
Atractylodes lancea (Cangzhu), Notopterygium root (Qianghuo), Alum (Mingfan), made into pills with fresh ginger juice. Hold in palm, clamp between legs, lie on side, cover warmly to induce sweating. If no sweat, promote with hot soup.
Sudden cold invading the person, hiding in Shaoyin (Lesser Yin). After ten days, it manifests as sore throat; commonly known as Kidney Shanghan. Use Pinellia ternata (Banxia), Cinnamon twig (Guizhi), Licorice root (Gancao), mixed with ginger juice.
Sudden cold attacking the skin and muscles, feeling as if there is no skin upon touch. Boil Sichuan pepper (Chuanjiao) in liquor, dip cloth and iron the area.
