After being ground and pressed multiple times until the oil is exhausted and it resembles powder, it is named *Ba Shuang* (Croton Seed Frost). It draws out toxins. Contraindicated in pregnancy.
This refers to the fragrant citrus with fine peel (*Xiang Yuan*). The fruit harvested in June, the peel harvested in August; those that are aged and worm-eaten are considered superior. The pulp and seeds must be removed, and it is stir-fried with flour. The fruit is cold in nature, resolving food stagnation and opening chest congestion. The peel is also cold, strengthening the Spleen, stimulating appetite, stopping vomiting and phlegm, and relieving tenesmus.
It directs rebellious Qi downward, opens depression, and resolves ding toxin (carbuncle toxin).
It strengthens the Spleen, breaks stagnation, treats dysentery, relieves tenesmus, and arrests malaria.
It resolves food stagnation, strengthens the Spleen, warms the Stomach, stops diarrhea and vomiting, and breaks hard accumulations.
After soaking thoroughly and removing the seeds completely, it is dried and charred. It eliminates postpartum evil blood, resolves meat accumulation, and clears stagnant old food.
It treats the Spleen's inability to transform grain, clears Bladder heat, promotes urination, and kills *Taenia saginata* (pork tapeworm/Inch-white worm). Removing the white pith yields *Ju Hong* (Tangerine Red Peel), which resolves phlegm, stops diarrhea and coughing, stimulates appetite, treats vomiting of clear fluid, intestinal obstruction, and resolves major toxicity.
Aged material is better; used whole, it treats zi yong (orchitis). Moxa-baked to retain its nature, ground into powder, and taken with aged yellow wine, it treats hernia. The seed treats wind-intestinal bleeding; the "Ju He" (Tangerine Seed) in formulas refers to this. There are frequent cases of using rotten tangerine seeds by mistake; physicians in Suzhou have not yet distinguished them from *Zhi Ju* (Bitter Orange/Poncirus trifoliata).
It stops deficiency sweating, night sweats, and deficiency heat.
Stir-fried with earth, it treats cold pathogen-induced epigastric fullness and masses, as well as miasma malaria and chronic accumulations.
It warms the Middle Jiao, removes turbidity, dispels wind pathogen, warms the Stomach, resolves cold phlegm, and antidotes vegetable poisoning. Dried form stops coughing and vomiting. Charred form has a purely Yang nature; if cold-medicine is mistakenly ingested, only this can resolve it.
Ground until damaged, it overcomes hardness, resolves epigastric fullness, and clears phlegm accumulation and malignant stagnation.
Steeped in wine and stir-fried, then ground until damaged, it regulates Yin and Yang, promotes urination, stops summerheat-dampness diarrhea and dysentery, benefits essence, nourishes Liver and Lung, strengthens Yin, and stops pain.
Bitter, slightly cold. Boiled into paste, taken on an empty stomach with half a cup of wine, it treats zhen jia (masses and accumulations), kills parasites, unites menstruation and invigorates blood, and is applied topically for sores and boils. Decoction for fumigation and washing treats genital swelling and washes away chancre toxins.
Drains Heart fire, treats damp-heat in Spleen and Stomach, heat-stagnation swelling and toxicity, guest-heat in the Heart, and unites meridians.
Steeped in wine, baked dry, and ground until damaged, it reaches the Lung, benefits Yin, and resolves pox/rash toxins. Roots, stems, and leaves are bitter, cold, and non-toxic; mixed together, they are known as "Qi Sha Yi Sheng Cao" (Kills Doctor Grass). Freshly crushed and applied topically, it resolves all types of carbuncle toxins and softens all hard anal masses. Inserted into ulcerated holes, it draws out toxins and generates flesh. Added to plasters, it is applied to sores and boils. Decoction for washing treats chancre and other toxins. De-haired and bruised, it treats jaundice and Spleen dampness.
